Should I apply to be an SSV? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AppleJuice214
How long do you think someone should have been a barista to become an SSV? I started in late April, and there’s a SSV wanting to step down. I thought about applying but then decided against it because I haven’t been there that long. The past few days I’ve been reconsidering it, I just don’t know if I even should try.

depends. are you trying to stay with the company long term, or is this just income to you. To me, i stepped up for the SSV position and was regretting it the second week out of shift training. I didn’t get nearly enough compensation for the standards they hold you to, and things they hold you accountable for. If you plan on a career with starbucks, yes, but to me, this job stressed me out way beyond I was getting paid for.

You couldn't pay me (what they pay SSV) to be a shift.

Shifts have a ton of responsibilities to juggle and their time outside of work is not respected. They are called in constantly and their shifts tend too be much more varied because of the amount of required open hours.

My SM talked with me about being a shift a coupled of times early on. Nope.

I've been there 3 years and still very happy to walk in, do my job and leave. 🤣

(Probably not the best thing to aspire to, but mentally I just need stability as it's been a really rough 3 years and I'm just now starting to pull together).
