Missed health benefits enrollment. Is there anything I can do? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by guavalemonades
Title. I recognize that obviously it's my responsibility to keep on top of things but 3 weeks for an entire year of missed health coverage is horrifically punishing. I've had multiple family emergencies and was busy all august, and there was no signage in the store mentioning that enrollment was up. I didn't realize until it was too late.

We are in a massive pandemic and if I get COVID I could be hospitalized. I need my wisdom teeth out this year. This is a serious emergency for me.

I found nothing on the Sbuxben website about this. Is there really nothing I can do? I have to go without employer healthcare for a year because I missed the 3 week enrollment period?

I’m not a Starbucks employee, but in most places I’ve worked, you can “initiate a life event” to change your benefits. You might be able to claim something like a change in domestic partnership to open it up for you to enroll. Other than that they are not likely willing to let you enroll outside of the 3-week window. I don’t know why is it like that but it’s stupid indeed.

Quit and get rehired. After 3 months you can get health insurance.
