Wait one barista and one shift or two baristas and a shift? Because my store at least for opening we always just have two baristas and one shift. And there have been quite a few times lately where the second barista doesn’t show/shows up super late…that sucks.

Two baristas and a shift. Though, I should probably mention that I also work.. at a very large Starbucks inside of an amusement park (,: where we usually have about 10 baristas working on an average day.

Oh yikes! There are definitely days where I don’t feel like two is even enough. Good luck!!
mosiacsoml [OP]9 points1y ago
Thank you I’ll definitely need it!

You usually have *10* people working and you’re only going to have 2?? How is that possible?
mosiacsoml [OP]9 points1y ago
Everyone has gone back to school since this was just their summer job. Basically working with No customer support, 1 on bar and 1 on register. So lots of annoyed people, no bathroom breaks and upper management refuses to let us close early until we can get more baristas in.
NothingToSeeFolks7 points1y ago
That sounds like literal hell, I’m so sorry. Good luck!

Take your breaks. It’s just coffee. Customers can wait.

my store always just has one shift and one barista at open and sometimes three at close, i honestly thought that was normal

I remember these days well and it's pretty much why I left. The company spent too much energy on penny pinching than actually making money and looking after the welfare of their partners.
I could expect to do a 10 hour shift in a busy store and work with 4 other people for the duration - 2 opening and 2 closing with a shorter shift in the middle to cover dinners. We would skip breaks, cafe would be trashed and people were baulking.
Then we would get a hard time from the useless district manager because people were on dinner at the busiest time. Only solution was to take dinners at about 9:30am. He was a bellend though and was well out of his depth.
After said shift could go to a quiet coffee shop on like a farm trail or something, and they would have 4 or 5 staff. It made no sense.

It does make cents though
cdog1417 points1y ago
Ha yeah, not much. Store closed soon after I left.

I fear this is the path my store is heading towards…we have literally 8 baristas and 4 shifts and we average 80-85k/week. and guess what? we haven’t been allowed to close early, turn off mobiles, close cafe, NOTHING
if our dm approves us to close cafe/turn off mobiles she will literally convince him not to. she’s just a temporary SM but i swear she hates us
BabeLincoln42013 points1y ago
if management actually expects people to work in these conditions they better not act surprised when we ask for a pay raise

Amen

Before I left my store the first time I was regularly scheduled with a shift, another barista, and no pre-closer. If the other barista called out the shift and I were left to ourselves with little to no hope that anyone would come in. I’m about to go into my closing shift right now and I’m absolutely dreading it because we were short staffed all day. Gotta love Starbucks :)
bubblesthebookworm3 points1y ago
My store only has one barista and one shift for open and close. I love constantly being understaffed :,)
philosopher_cat_lady2 points1y ago
That's more than I get at my store

Godspeed soldier

We have four employees total in our kiosk right now. Today we are doing one opener, one closer. I mean, it is a kiosk, so its fine, but on the other hand... breaks. Life sucks sometimes.

we open with 1 barista and 1 shift and close with two baristas and a shift. closing hasn’t changed ever but opening used to be 2 went down to 1. Is this not normal ?
mosiacsoml [OP]1 points1y ago
I work at an amusement park Starbucks, we usually have around 9-10 people working on an average day
MVLWVRE1 points1y ago
wait is two openers and two closers not normal?
mosiacsoml [OP]1 points1y ago
Not when we have a huge store and have 9-10 people working on an average day
