I just found this Reddit and I have never felt so heard!!!! What are some things you beautiful humans are doing for mental health?? By the time my shift is over, I just want to go lay in bed for the rest of the day. I have always been called the store mom and a shoulder to cry on, but the siren is breaking me. I want to be strong for everyone, especially the green beans, they got hired in the fire! But my body and mind are broken. Sorry for the rant, it was a really bad day. I hope you all are doing good too? This ish is no joke!

I got called an asshole today because a lady strolled past the speaker box and straight to the window and gave me an attitude saying we didn't say anything to her back there and I told her we were busy and I saw her not even stop for a second anyway and I told her literally to not speak to me in that tone. She called me an asshole, I shut the window and she drove away. This week has been actual hell and I'm over it. I know my worth.

Wow. I’m sorry she did that! That’s not cool at all. But heck yah for standing up for yourself! We are still humans! I swear some think we are robots that don’t feel.

my mental health is trash and this job only makes it worse. howeverrr after a particularly bad shift i like to go home, take a hot shower, a FAT nap, and then if the weather isn’t awful i take a walk with my dog or read a book. it doesn’t work wonders but it relaxes me enough to want to off myself less yanno?
blissfulchaos116 [OP]4 points1y ago
I totally get it. My mental health is a dumpster fire, I need to get a dog. A happy face whenever you’re around.

We get Headspace for free and I've been really getting into meditation / mindfulness with it! 10/10

I need to get on headspace! I forgot we get that as a benefit. I have been rocking the YouTube meditations! 😂😂

Super easy to sign up, I'm pretty sure I just Googled "headspace Starbucks partner" or something along those lines

I saw the worst of it today on the main reddit people bickering cause I didn't wanna continue the pay it forward and got called a bad person. The good customer tipped the workers really well that shift and I just wanted to be a good person and not buy anything for the customer in front cause I am sure that can get a green bean in trouble.
blissfulchaos116 [OP]8 points1y ago
This has been happening a lot lately, is something going on? (Not that it is) No one should have to feel like they have to, to be honest…I feel like it can put a lot of pressure on a person when the pay it forward starts.
[deleted]4 points1y ago
Thats another reason why I didn't wanna put pressure on the customer next in line. Especially when majority in my area are on cerb.
Seriously_jst_4real3 points1y ago
I also agree with the sentiment that if someone is coming to Starbucks and placing an order, they can pay for what they ordered. And a person with 2 coffees or 2 teas has a cheaper order than someone with 2 venti Frappuccino and some 15 step cold foam monstrosity. So when it starts I also have no problem telling a customer that there's a large order or something behind them and they don't have to feel obligated.
[deleted]2 points1y ago
Completely agreed my store doesn't care for online rude customer trolling. They already know that has happen to me. My job isn't affected because of my post. I post on anon. I'll definitely let the store know that the customer are unlikely to do pay it forward at least at my location.
spookbish692 points1y ago
I saw that thread! And honestly I agree with you and the others who said to put the money in the tip jar, cause I think the guy said it was okay for it to go in the jar

Definitely 👍

I have to workout to get rid of all the bad vibes. Let me tell you I would rather do anything other than working out, but then I become an awful person. When I workout I focus on myself(& whatever music I’m listening to) & no one is else. It helps.
blissfulchaos116 [OP]4 points1y ago
I need to do it. Working out would help a ton, the motivation part, that’s the hard part. Lol but does anyone really love to go to the gym? 😂
Altruistic_Deer_77566 points1y ago
I workout at home. At the gym I might see customers & I do not need that.
HedgehogFarts2 points1y ago
I hate endurance workouts but ima tell ya what I do love. Take a little pre workout to get fired up. Then hit the weights. Some people like free weights but I like the machine weights. I love the incline squat machine, that makes for a phattt booty. Then veg out in the sauna. Treat yourself.

Im ngl I've been taking like 4 hour naps as soon as I get home every day 😭😭 it's just too exhausting
juliaandy995 points1y ago
We get Lyra too in case you weren’t aware. I used up all of my sessions already :(
Seaweedgreedy3 points1y ago
I heard they reset October 1st! When you get the next set you should talk to your therapist about spacing out your sessions in a way so that you run out right when they reset again!
Seaweedgreedy3 points1y ago
I take advantage of the lyra therapy sessions benefit:)

Today is my last day with Starbucks because my mental health has gone down the drain. I moved stores in the middle of the pandemic, my new manager has been no help, there is hardly any good communication, I'm the last person to know anything and I'm a shift, and I haven't made any real connections with anyone at my new store. It broke me. I didn't even give a weeks notice; at least I didn't quit on the spot, which I really badly wanted to do.
I'm going to miss free access to Headspace but that's about it. I'll probably pay for it since I love the app so much and it helps me sleep when I'm having insomnia.
Hoax_Pudding_Cup2 points1y ago
Once I get home, I change into pajamas and watch some anime or read a bit. Just ordered some new manga, can't wait for it tbh. I also picked up a few murder mysteries from Walmart, books are so cheap these days lol. But reading about a huge problem like someone wanting revenge always takes my mind off work lol
Canadiansbux1 points1y ago
Honestly I couldn't have made it through working through covid with out my Pomeranian Lily. She just makes me feel so loved and happy 😊
kygi1 points1y ago
this is so poetic, you mean so much for those green beans and you are so strong!
Rb8341 points1y ago
Honestly the only way I make it through is by completely shutting down and keeping to myself. If I interact with people as little as possible, then there's less chance of anything helps. Its prob not the healthiest thing, but thats my solution.
Brina12081 points1y ago
I'm good at holding back my emotions, so at work, I have my "everything for the customer" mask on. I go to work by bike, so when I leave, I usually go cycling a bit to release stress and at home I play some shooting games as well 😅 I play really well when I picture rhe rude customers as the enemy 😁
urlocaltransboy1 points1y ago
Honestly a key thing that keeps me sane is that some of the expectations starbucks has for us baristas are out of the realm of possibility. You can only do so much. Your not a machine after all. Another thing that keeps me at the job is creating things that I know people are gonna like. It’s really awesome to see people enjoying stuff your hand making them. At the end of the day, i’m here for altruistic reasons; not starbucks.
willowthywillow1 points1y ago
the Lyra benefit saved me, try it out!
atlasolivier1 points1y ago
I'm not a partner anymore, but I found that meditation (someone already mentioned headspace) helped a lot. During my time at Starbucks, I learned a few breathing exercises that I could use to help the stress I would get during busy/tough shifts. I hope it doesn't get too stressful for you!
