So I just started at Starbucks this week, but have worked at local coffeeshops before. The main reason I left local is Bc I really needed the benefits that Starbucks has to offer.
In local shops it tends to be a bit more relaxed and all about the coffee not drive thru times and crap like that. But in my Starbucks store, we are lucky and only have a few rude customers whereas I’ve had more at the other shops Bc they are “snobs” or they expect it to be just like Starbucks but don’t realize that a traditional macchiato is espresso with foam on top. Locally, tips are way better Bc they can actually do it on their cards.
I was probably better off mentally at local, but enjoying the pace right now and looking forward to the benefits Starbucks offers.

100% yes, smaller coffee shops will actually care about how you're doing and stand up for you to belligerent customers. Nobody cares about you in starbucks, customers dont care and would like to find something to complain about, partners are pretty fake and everyone talks shit ab everyone.... great place to buy your coffee. Horrible place to work.
