So I had something that happened today that I was just really surprised over and it just made me think. I was on front register today, and we were swamped. Multiple orders, ranging from 10-50 dollars each. Rarely a tip. Never exceeding 50 cents. But when we had a slow period, an elderly homeless man walked in, and asked for an ice water, and cup of ice. As I told him I'd go grab it, he said "oh wait you need a tip" and dug around his pockets to find a dollar and put it into the tip jar. I tried to tell him he didn't have to, but he insisted. This man who already had very little, and just wanted some water, tipped more than people who order 10 drinks and food items. Idk if I'm overreacting, but it just got to me. Do y'all have any similar stories? I'd love to here them!

We had a homeless man that hung around when I used to be a closer (a few years ago, around Christmas time). He clearly had something wrong with him, because he would sit in cafe and talk to himself and even sometimes have a slight out burst. I felt awful for him though, because winter here is brutal, so I got the okay from my shift to ask him if I could get him anything free of charge. He only asked for a black coffee and it absolutely broke my heart when I got close to him, because he was crying and looking at old photos of what I assume was his family. I have no idea the story behind it and haven’t seen him since, but I just hope he’s doing better now.

Our local homeless guy comes in and just reaches over the counter to grab cups and EVERY time I say dude you can't just take cups all the time, and EVERY time he replies with "I have throat cancer" Idgaf stop reaching over the counter like that? We have plexiglass up too so he really has to maneuver instead of just,,,, asking us?? If he was polite I wouldn't care but he just sucks

My spouse works in the ER and he always lets homeless people come in and chill in the waiting room but he tells them they have to be cool or no deal.
