I want to quit (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ggoldensunsetss
Finally after months of debating if I should or shouldn’t quit I think I’m just going to do it. If anyone wants to share their resignation letters for inspiration I would love that!
sheep_heavenly 125 points 1y ago
"Due to changing circumstances, my last available date to work at Starbucks is xx/yy."

That's it.
wesborobaptistchurch 110 points 1y ago
A sympathy card that says “sorry for your loss” and inside write “it’s me. this is my two week’s notice :)”
prhamm 41 points 1y ago
Don't actually do this if you want to finish your two weeks - I've seen people do this & be terminated on the spot.
StomachGullible 25 points 1y ago
I did this as a bike messenger for an attorneys services firm. Fucking hugged my worst boss of my life on the way out too for the laughs.
prhamm 0 points 1y ago
Everyone's experience is different! And everyone's relationship with their manager is different. But I have just seen people reeeeeallly regret this one.
StomachGullible 2 points 1y ago
Oh of course exercise discretion. Some bridges deserve to be torched.

That boss had a speed issue and withheld wages from all of his staff, deposition officers, messengers, the receptionist, and the unlicensed accountant lol.
wesborobaptistchurch 11 points 1y ago
At Starbucks??
prhamm 1 points 1y ago
Yep.
BrotatoChip04 27 points 1y ago
I did this at my previous job but I had a good relationship with my boss and I left on good terms. Yeah it’s funny to do but make damn sure you have the right relationship with your boss if you want to do this lmao
wesborobaptistchurch 7 points 1y ago
Oh yeah, definitely!
SandPanda27 3 points 1y ago
Lmao I did that at my first job
AMarie-MCMXCI 74 points 1y ago
Here is my super basic resignation letter. You can always add things to make it more personal but don't make it too negative if you want to use your manager or supervisors as a reference.

Dear (Manager's Name)

This letter is to notify you my resignation. My last day will be DATE.

Thank you for the opportunity, I have learned a lot and made some wonderful connections here at Starbucks, however, I feel that it is time for me to move on. I hope that I can use you in as a reference in the future. Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely,

Your Name.

“This place is toxic, I quit.”
juju483 17 points 1y ago
I would suggest putting the exact last date you can work
mrbubblegxm 15 points 1y ago
I just said some fluff, and then that i learned a lot and would maybe consider coming back just in case i have to go back to starbucks. which i did :’) but i get paid 5 dollars more now so 🤑
ggoldensunsetss [OP] 8 points 1y ago
This is exactly why I want to write one because there’s a possibility of me wanting to come back if another job doesn’t work out until I get a job after I graduate college! Most people are sayin I don’t have to
mrbubblegxm 5 points 1y ago
i get it. after i quit for another job i thought i would never come back and then not a month later was back
TheBlueSuperNova 10 points 1y ago
Literally my worst fear. Fuck retail.
SNES182 15 points 1y ago
This is Starbucks. You don’t need a resignation letter. You just tell your manager you are putting in your two weeks.
ggoldensunsetss [OP] 37 points 1y ago
it’s considered more professional if you do. All of my previous coworkers who have quit have a resignation letter. I get that it’s Starbucks but it is still a big and well known company.
b0gw1tch 34 points 1y ago
Every customer service job I've ever left, my letter of resignation is just- "Dear *manager*, thank you for the opportunity to work with you and our team. I am writing to inform you that my last day at Starbucks will be *date*. Thank you for your leadership, it's been a pleasure working with you. Yours sincerely, *name*"
depressoroast 14 points 1y ago
pls put it on paper. If it’s not documented, your manager could keep scheduling you and then when you eventually get called about to why you aren’t coming in for your shift, your manager could list you as unhireable should you ever choose to come back.
ggoldensunsetss [OP] 8 points 1y ago
I’ll keep that noted! thank you for let me know and helping me out because most of these people are making it a joke
depressoroast 3 points 1y ago
Of course! Granted—it’s probably highly unlikely but there are bad managers out there that will schedule you beyond your two week notice. It’s best to just always leave a paper trail! Good luck on your next adventure!!
SkootchDown 1 points 1y ago
Good for you. Be professional, and never, ever burn your bridges.
StomachGullible -6 points 1y ago
It may be professional, but it doesn't make a lick of difference for this job because they do not see you as a professional as much as unskilled labor.

I am serious, you really only do this sort of thing so that you can use someone as a reference - which your manager will not be. They'll just have your future jobs confirm employment through theworknumber.com
ggoldensunsetss [OP] 4 points 1y ago
either way if it’s not considered “professional” enough I am choosing to write one. You don’t have to if you don’t want to I just asked for those who wanted to share it to do so.
StomachGullible -9 points 1y ago
No, I am just saying you are not considered professional enough to merit a reference through the perspective of corporate. You can get snippy all you would like, I am just letting you know the end result will be the same whether you give 2 weeks verbally or write a letter.
cadmus1890 1 points 1y ago
It's literally policy that managers are not to give recommendations. They are expected to refer to corporate.
madamesoybean 7 points 1y ago
Paper & or an electronic record with a date is always a good idea though. Juuuust in case.
Paranoid_Devil 14 points 1y ago
I quit when I heard my SM talk poorly about me when I was on workers comp. pretty much summed up I was not valued. Do it. Leave. You won’t regret it
sad--and--cute 4 points 1y ago
I didn’t have a resignation letter bc at that point, I didn’t know those were a thing, but this is how I put it my two weeks: I asked my SM and ASM for a few minutes when they had the time. We sat down in the lobby away from other people and I thanked them for the opportunity to work for the company and for the experiences and things I’ve learned. I told them that it was time for me to try something new and I’d like to put in my two weeks, but that I was very appreciative for everything. They asked me if I could stay for three instead and I agreed and that was it! Way easier than I thought :)
dragomaster2422 3 points 1y ago
Don’t let anyone guilt you into a two week’s notice. It only benefits your employer. They don’t deserve your time or anyone else’s. Move on with your life as fast as you can.
peaples 2 points 1y ago
I handed my two weeks in today! It feels great to finally do what I know I’ve needed to for a while. Life is too short to spend more time at a place that doesn’t value your worth or emotional/physical/mental health and pays you terribly.

Also, technically you don’t need to give a two weeks at Starbucks, per policy, but it certainly helps maintain professionalism and covers all of your bases during your exit.
Medical-Walk1881 2 points 1y ago
I gave my manager a sticky note I wrote on my break
fiercequeenathena 2 points 1y ago
I just wrote my resignation letter tonight too!

So I say if you feel it's not for you, it's not for you.
snowflakenecklace 2 points 1y ago
mine was literally "dear (manager), i am giving my formal notice. my last day to work will be (date) as scheduled. thank you for everything."
PunkBunnie22 2 points 1y ago
If you want to write one keep it simple, don’t add too much to it. Just say:
Dear (managers name here),
I am writing to let you know that my last day at (enter store name) Starbucks will be (insert date).
(You can thank for the opportunity here if you want but you don’t need that much stuff to it)
Thank you,
(Insert your name)
Also take a a picture of it time stamped on your phone and add the date you wrote it on the top corner of the letter just so it’s stamped in case anything happens. I wrote mine once at a job and then the head of the department never told the scheduler that I quit lol. So just to have your bases covered but it’s easier to quit Starbucks then anywhere else
spark908 1 points 1y ago
I called in sick after they told me I couldn't wear gloves during a global pandemic. Never came back
Gameb0i6 1 points 1y ago
Resignation letter? You don’t need to give one. It’s a coffee shop. You don’t owe them shit.
Neurotic_Mooses 1 points 1y ago
Me: hello

Store manager: we are really concerned abo....

Me: I'm a line cook now fuck off!
