question for Starbucks baristas about iced coffee (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by johnnyk312
I’m hooked on the iced coffee…would you please share how you prepare it? Is it just a regular batch stuck in the fridge or is there less water involved in the brewing process? I’m familiar with the Japanese method of brewing a full batch onto ice with half the water, is that what’s happening? Is the grind any finer than it is with the hot coffee? Also, what beans do you use?

We use a prepackaged ground bag of iced coffee, it makes about 2L when complete. First, the coffee is brewed (like you would a regular cup of joe), then we put about an even ratio of ice in it when brewing is completed.

So half the water you’d use for a hot batch, then you add ice to make up the other half?

It’s a 9 ounce bag and it comes to us already ground, I’m pretty sure it’s the only coffee we prepare that we do not grind in store. We brew it into a half urn or half batch of our drip coffee maker, as another commented, it comes to about 2 liters of hot concentrate to which we add enough ice to double the volume and then dump into the huge urn we dispense it from. It’s brewed fresh all day, we sell a ton and it may be the best value in the store. Edit: reread your question, we just hit the half pot button to brew but since 2L comes out it probably reasonable to estimate 9 oz of ground coffee to 2L of water. The coffee is neither remarkably fine or coarsely ground and we brew in a flat basket urn

Does frap roast even count of coffee?
proletarithot 9 points 1y ago
It contains caffeine at least. Frap roast in general smells and tastes disgusting. It’s always reminded me of dog food somehow rehydrated with soy sauce, stored in an old pot of coffee.

I hated fraps before working at Tarbucks but making and working with craproast destroyed me. Once my store forgot to change ours for almost 10 days /vomits

Yuck now I’m even less inclined to drink a Frappuccino

I think, from what my assistant store manager said, it’s a blend between Guatemala Antigua and Sirens Blend.
Malevolent_barnacle 6 points 1y ago
It used to be called 'la terraza' iced coffee blend, and the closest sub used to be our Ethiopia.

Cold brew is Columbia nariño, which is 70% Latin American & 30% African blend, which is what you ASM might be thinking of
