hi fellow partners !! :) i recently finished my training and i today was my first practice day. i honestly really like my job so far but throughout the day i made really dumb mistakes and i just felt all over the place. i guess i doubted myself and my abilities to succeed in this job. i even used my 10 min break to cry in the bathroom💀💀. but i wanted to know if any of you had any advice to make this experience better? thanks :))

hey bestie, don’t sweat it! it definitely gets easier! one of the biggest things starbucks has taught me is that i have to allow myself room to grow and that includes making mistakes. tears are okay, it happens to the best of us. im sure you’ll be great in no time! keep at it, you’re doing great!🥰

don’t be too hard on yourself! when you’re a green bean, mistakes are inevitable but without making them you wouldn’t be able to learn; no one is judging you harder fun you’re judging yourself, and it will get easier with each shift

When I was hired as a SSV, my SM told me it'd take about 3 months to really feel comfortable and settled in the position. I thought for sure it wouldn't take that long since I had prior barista experience, but there I was crying on my first shift with morning peak because I just couldn't keep up. It sucks. You get stronger and the pace/pattern gets easier to adjust to. Rooting for you :)

You're doing absolutely fine!

To be honest, the week-long training doesn't even cover half of what baristas are expected to do, and most of the nuanced things are specific to how each store is run. They want you to make mistakes so you can learn on the job rather than pay you to be trained for a longer amount of time.

Just be attentive, always ask questions if you're unsure, and remember that if you've made a mistake, chances are everyone in that store has made the same mistake and worse 😂

Good luck!

things are definitely hard to grasp as a green bean, I panicked when I was put on bar my first time and made a bunch of silly mistakes. but that's just the learning process! I've been a Starbucks barista for about 3 years now and I'm still learning new things every day, so don't sweat it! getting comfortable in your position will take time, but before you know it you'll be slinging drinks left and right. rooting for you!

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself! I've worked in hospitality for 5 years and know how to make bomb coffee, but my on first day at Starbucks (last week!) I felt like a newbie all over again! It takes patience and a good trainer that can make you comfortable. I don't know if you're the same but I had to download the app Attensi Skills for online training and it's helped a lot with remembering sequencing etc.
Good luck!! Xxx

i’ve been working at starbucks for a little less than a month now, and trust me, there are new things to learn everyday. it will definitely take time, and i’m still pretty inexperienced at a lot of things (especially bar at the moment.) but some things will get easier, i promise!! don’t be afraid to keep asking questions and just know it’s okay to make mistakes even weeks down the line haha.
