“You will have to come in store to complete these transactions, thank you and see you inside!”

Pro tip: if they’re the same amount, on the gift card screen, before hitting load input the amount first and then hit load new card and then just start scanning/swiping them all.
FfierceLaw 14 points 1y ago
This. Then 20 cards take less time than most 4 beverage orders that happen all the time. Plus, note to self: the moment a customer wants to buy a gift card say, “Yes! But we don’t have any envelopes, is that ok?” I had one of these petty envelope people in the cafe recently. Edit: I do the same when out of caramel crunch, why not envelopes? Apparently we’re as much a gift shop as a sweet shop

And a sweatshop.

100%! Also, if you press ‘Quantity’ and enter how many cards you need then tap ‘Activate New Card’ it works the same, I’ll have to try your method!

Thank you, I'll try to remember this. It was so frustrating to ring them separately and knowing there had to be a faster way.
shinymutt 22 points 1y ago
The saddest part is that this was at least a $100 sale but management disregards it because it took longer than 30 seconds at the window.

My understanding is that gift card sales don’t count towards sales numbers anyway, that revenue is credited to the stores in which the cards are used.
ladytaters 9 points 1y ago
That's correct. Gift cards aren't actually money in the stores' pockets as much as they are credit held by a customer. When they're used, then they become an asset for the store where they're used.

Correct. Gift cards are unearned revenue and are considered a liability because the company has made money without tendering goods or services.
Data_Dame 1 points 1y ago
It most definitely not considered a liability. The company have already gotten paid. The gift card can be destroyed and the company still got paid. Its just accounting when it comes to it being credited to the store they choose to use it on

“Companies cannot recognize revenue upon the initial sale of a gift card because of a key revenue recognition principle that states that revenue is recognized when or as an entity satisfies a performance obligation by transferring a promised good or service to a customer. Therefore, when a company sells a gift card, cash has been received, but goods or services have yet to be provided—the seller records this increase in cash along with a liability for unearned revenue.”

Were they all at very least the same amount?

Maybe she has a medical reason for not going in. The real problem is corporations/managers/co workers/customers that place so much emphasis on drive thru times. Don't stress. You helped that human being.
Jew_3 1 points 1y ago
Honestly. This.
Kivic 5 points 1y ago
This happened to me last night but with 40 all for 5.25! Took nearly 4 minutes for my barista to add it. I think the only benefit was that we stacked the cars and got the others out in under 40 seconds. So it saved the window time. But like wtf?!?
realnewtgeiszler 1 points 1y ago
Someone came into our store and asked for over 150 gift cards once. I think he paid like over $500 for all of them
SailorMars2319 1 points 1y ago
20 gift cards and she's requesting for 5 of them saying happy birthday, 5 of them for teachers, 5 of them for thank you's, and 5 of them regular gift cards with different amounts and you see you're out of gift card envelopes and you're like "Oh f\*\*\*"

idk how you guys put up with it. When I tell a customer something and they try to do whatever anyway. I straight up tell them. I was not asking permission I was telling you. I’m the person working, You’re just a guest. You do as I say or you go away. but then again. People that I work with know I’m a bitch so they send me first.
