Does anyone else do literally anything to not be on bar?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by thechamelioncircuit
Sometimes I have moods where I’m okay on bar but otherwise I would sell my actual soul to do anything else.
Dominicmeoward108 points1y ago
Before I quit I would do anything to avoid being put anywhere *but* bar, I loved it.
uwumoment60 points1y ago
i would beg to be on bar everyday 😭😭 lmfao
darkwolf52310 points1y ago
Lmao I just go for it. Mainly because I work the afternoon shift and there would usually be the pre closer and the manager on duty
Pheebers71348 points1y ago
I like bar but I’m a fucking wizard on warming. When I was an opener I was put on warming 4 out of my 5 shifts each week and loved it.
groovydoll23 points1y ago
Ahhh the good old warming wizard
strangeyeena40 points1y ago
Favorite to least favorite. Bar, Warming, DTO, Cafe/CS, Window. I really, really hate window. I can’t stand forcing customer connections. 😫
[deleted]4 points1y ago
Same! Window is the worst!
andyboy2322 points1y ago
Bruh same!
wifeypoopoo28 points1y ago
The only positions I hate are cold bar and CS. Put me literally anywhere else
uwumoment15 points1y ago
they always put me on cold bar because i’m good at it but </3 it makes me sad that i haven’t been on hot bar in so long
here_forthefun2 points1y ago
Lol meanwhile I love bar and CS
thechamelioncircuit [OP]2 points1y ago
Our fucking store is like 90% cold drinks and I’m so tired of it
Flickolas_Cage14 points1y ago
Love bar, would rather die screaming than be on POS, personally.
thechamelioncircuit [OP]4 points1y ago
POS for LIFE
ellsb3lls12 points1y ago
same. i struggle so much on hot bar. i actually weep for joy if they put me ANYWHERE else. i can’t steam milk for shit.
goldqueen2874 points1y ago
Omg neither could I but I learned the trick of putting the pouring indent against the back of the steam wand, and then pulling the cup up and down 1-3 times or 6-10 times (# based on the tearing sounds) depending on if it was a latte or capp. This could be standard but none of my coworkers taught me this until I saw newbies being trained like this sooo
ellsb3lls2 points1y ago
oh! i’ll try that then. thank you so much 🙇🏻♀️
lewabwee10 points1y ago
As long as I’m not taking orders I’m okay with anything
witchbitchcraft10 points1y ago
As someone who is ALWAYS on bar, I mean ALWAYS, I’d love to do something else.
WingsofFlight6 points1y ago
I will avoid POS if I can. But most SSVs put us there because they hate it too. Warming is okay, cold bar is give or take. Frap City? I will do it but I hate it. Bar? I don't mind it but have to be in the right mood.
thechamelioncircuit [OP]4 points1y ago
God I hate MOP
DieLawnUwU5 points1y ago
Put me anywhere but drive. I can handle it but the people and the amount of stupid that comes through my store’s drive they is insane.
JugglesTheKlown5 points1y ago
It's DTO for me.
spensyr5 points1y ago
Some days I literally would rather get shot down than be on bar, and I’m not exaggerating. But also sometimes I just want to do bar. Really depends on how busy it was the day before or if I even have been on bar lately. 🤷🏻♂️ My favorite position is front and warming though.
FfierceLaw5 points1y ago
I wish I were fast enough on bar that it's a problem for me. I'll get there, but all the way I'll make bevs to standard. No making a refresher/lemonade in the cup with no shaking or passing off caramel Frappuccino as both coffee and caramel to customers in the same car, I witnessed my SSV and partner do both last Saturday during an understaffed peak.
thechamelioncircuit [OP]8 points1y ago
They can’t expect things to be up to standard when understaffed like that tbh. But I get what you’re saying
mrbubblegxm3 points1y ago
i used to be the only person at my store who could SOLO DTO and DTR. then my new shift felt bad for me and now i’m a bar wh*re
kickswithkisses3 points1y ago
We’ve had a drive-thru store nearby close multiple times because they’re understaffed and all the mobile traffic has been redirected to us. I’m pretty new at my store but I’m probably the only noob who’s been put on bar at peak. A few days ago we literally had a crowd of customers in the lobby with me on hand-off bar, were out of the #1 drink people order at our store (cold brew) and they were still able to order it on the app, tons of people wanted refunds and we were having to make iced coffee nonstop as a substitute. I think my shift supervisor also underestimated how much milk we needed and we literally ran out of 2% and heavy cream and a bunch of other stuff. There were some people waiting 10-20 minutes for their drink and it was extremely stressful having to apologize to every customer for the wait times but I mean, what else was there to do? I think to be able to handle bar you have to realize that all you can do is focus on the drinks in front of you and be able to do that well. It is kind of hard to do that when things are so heavily customized or every other drink requires foam, but you have to persist through that anxiety of certain drinks taking you longer and just apologize and let customers know you’re working on their order. I’ve only worked for Starbucks for a month but I would say the bar is my favorite position (during non-peak times) because it’s the most creative one! I love crafting the drinks because I enjoy a lot of them myself. Pretty much every other role is supportive, POS is more about communication and I feel that I understand the menu well at this point, along with how to enter things so my baristas can understand what a customer wants if it’s something specific, and I understand brewing cadence, so I would not mind being there during peak or otherwise. Warming and mobile are nice also, I was there today because one of my shift supervisors is good about taking me off when she notices things getting hectic. We don’t ever really have a CS at our store but I’d say that might be my least favorite position unless my SSV is just telling me what to do; i.e. I feel pretty aimless in that position, but it’s probably just because I haven’t been at Starbucks that long, so it’s harder for me to recognize what we need most in any given situation without someone pointing it out to me. I want to be great at every role because I want to not feel stressed at work and I want to be a good teammate to my coworkers, but I’d love to be spectacular on the bar because that’s where I find myself feeling the most creative.
thechamelioncircuit [OP]3 points1y ago
I love CS and Reg. I don’t HATE bar, my store is just super busy and it’s stressful af especially because I usually have to solo bar.
ForbyBunny3 points1y ago
Facts!! I hate bar so much!!
cashorb2 points1y ago
this but dto
heyHoe2072 points1y ago
Anything but customer support pls god
canidieyet_2 points1y ago
i LOVE bar. cold bar specifically. i’m always on cold bar <3 now window on the other hand? ask me to go there and i automatically want to walk out
[deleted]2 points1y ago
I would rather sell my soul than to be put on CS. it makes the time crawl by so slowly, and it is absolutely miserable. At least on bar it feels like time goes by quickly. I am an opener though, so that probably has a lot to do with it. We are almost always slammed, so the orders just roll in. I tend to thrive under stress, I guess.
xpinkskies2 points1y ago
It’s doing the dishes for me v.v
[deleted]2 points1y ago
Did bar for 4 months straight and it burnt me out for life because everyone else thought they didn’t have to help me because they weren’t assigned there, so they’d just play on their phones instead. I only really get put on bar like once every month or two now.
Back when we still had happy hours, I volunteered to work it for extra help and then the SSV put me on bar solo and sent the other bar/cold bar people home early. Then they got mad because I was mad at them for taking advantage of me when I gave up my time off to help. They complained about me to my SM and my SM had my back. I never worked a happy hour after that either.
RottenFries1 points1y ago
I love it? I only hate it when I'm solo doing the drive stickers at a peak, but if it's not crazy busy it's so fun. The only position I hate is being Customer Support and I slightly dislike being at the window but overall I'm ok with it
rosallia1 points1y ago
Nah I love bar, something about making lattes in silence
muhkiim1 points1y ago
I preferred it, especially DT bar. My shift always went by super fast and I usually only had to talk to coworkers or the occasional customer. If I went back to any kind of job in food and beverage, it would have to be in a kitchen or something.
ShannyES1 points1y ago
Slap me on DT please. I can run it singlehandedly. Just don’t make me bar during a rush because I get overwhelmed there. And I dislike CS because I despise cleaning up after others and I’m a closer so it’s the garbage no other day parts wanted to do.
ShannyES1 points1y ago
But I’d rather be on hot bar than cold bar. Those blenders could die and I wouldn’t be sad.
imathrowayslc1 points1y ago
I hate cs. Please literally anything else please. Dt bar or dtr are my favorite. Support if I am calling the play.
Electronic-Ad37671 points1y ago
I will clean the whole store before taking Bar
dvdhfkfksbeb1 points1y ago
Me, but with drive thru. I literally only want to do bar

My favourite position at work is DTO from home lol 😆
LaReinaDelMundo1 points1y ago
I worked there for three months and never got to try bar 😂
BluejayHefty2021 points1y ago
I despise cold bar. I will run the entire front (hot bars, oven and cafe) over doing cold bar

goodtombs1 points1y ago
I will do anything to avoid pos concierge or warming. CS is my favourite as I’m a closer and bar would be my second favourite
ephemereaux1 points1y ago
I’m usually okay on Bar 2, but I cannot handle Bar 1. Luckily I’m never placed there when it’s actually busy—during nights sometimes I solo bar but it’s not crazy. Favorite to least favorite is DTO, DTR, Bar 2, Warming, CS, and then Front/Bar 1 are pretty much on the same level lol
