Car broke can’t work (self.starbucksbaristas)

So tonight my car started running hot and it was real weird and stuff so I’ll need to get it fixed/looked at tomorrow. This means I can’t get to work and I’ve told this to my manager and she basically said I still need to come in. I explained I have no way of getting to work though and she said she would pick me up :/ I still need to be available to have it looked and take care of it so I can’t come in. I also cover for people and come in when i’m sick or in pain I do a lot for this store so I feel it should be ok that I can’t come in one day. I’ve also put my two weeks in so whatever I guess. I still feel really guilty though :/

You put your two weeks in and your manager is still being that insistent? Don’t feel guilty, it’s literally not your fault. The “come in no matter what” culture at some stores is so obnoxious. Personally I think it was nice of you to warn your manager about your car instead of calling in sick. So many managers just completely ignore the fact that most baristas have a life outside of Starbucks. I’m assuming they were probably thinking you’d drop the car off at a place or something. Maybe that’s why they were insistent about offering a ride?
Regardless, the store’s gonna function with or without you. They’ll get by. Making sure your car is properly fixed so you don’t have to miss more than one shift because of it strikes me as more important. Good luck!

I need to be available to get it looked at tomorrow and to pay for it if I have too. I’m going to be working around my dads schedule to get it looked at and I don’t know when he will be home so we can work on it. I honestly don’t know a lot about cars so I need my dad to help me and he works all time so I just have to work with his schedule. I’ve never missed a day of work and if I can’t get it fixed now I won’t be able to come in for the rest of the week I feel like missing one day is also not that bad. To clarify I’m supposed to close tomorrow and that’s going to be around the time my dad gets off work.
