how do i ask to stop being on dto/dtr (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by diotheleo
i'm hard of hearing. ive made this clear to every manager, i say it to customers over the headset, etc, and yet this is the third day in a row ive been dto/dtr for my shift. it makes me so anxious and is so exhausting and despite that, they keep putting me there. i told my ssv today that i was on dto/dtr the last two days and she told me i would only be there for a few minutes until a late partner got in and then left me there and i'm moments awah from a breakdown at any point and i feel like if they put me back there im gonna walk out

i cant keeo doing this

You should tell all your shifts to avoid putting you there because you’re HOH. If they don’t listen, then keep escalating it to the next level of management until they do something about it (store manager then dm). HOH is a disability and I’m pretty sure if you asking to avoid being on DTO/DTR for extended periods of time is a reasonable accommodation (I don’t think you can avoid it entirely especially if you work at times where not a lot of partners are working, but it is more reasonable to be put on DTO/DTR if you need to temporarily cover a break or a lunch. Did you remind your SSV after the late partner got there that you shouldn’t be on drive, it’s possible they made a mistake and forgot and reminding might help. They definitely should accommodate not being able to hear people over the headset.

They 100% should be accommodating you. we’ve had a HOH partner at our store for years and he only works on drive bar or dtr (nothing inside because he can’t read lips with masks) and hes recently been promoted to trainer! don’t let the shitty environment hold you down! Make sure they understand that its because of being HOH that you don’t want to be stuck in those positions. If they don’t respect your needs then honestly DO walk out or consider transferring to a store that better accommodates you. Try reaching out to your DM as well because in my opinion this is unacceptable behaviour from your manager/SSVS. If they say they can’t accommodate you for your disability that is a lie and don’t let them get away with it! (very upset in your behalf OP)
