PSA: please include some customer etiquette in your barista training for these new 320***** people. (self.starbucksbaristas)

Please for the love of god. A lot of these new partners are completely unaware of this sortof unspoken code for us when we go order at other stores. Please teach your new partners this in store so they don't go do this elsewhere. I know I have had the conversations with some of my green beans and they honestly don't know some of the things that just annoy the crap out of us- because they haven't experienced it yet. Its ok. We need to help them though please or these "ew I hate all the new partners" posts will just multiply. It should be part of training. Here are a few I have had to hit on:

1-Use you partner markouts! You deserve them because you work here. However please remember to request them before scanning anything and be ready to show ID or partner card- technically we are supposed to and we had issues with tiktokers stealing numbers before all these people got hired.

2- if you want a complicated drink creation- please experiment in your own store and have down pat how you want it rang up and please please please do not try to tell me where the buttons are while rolling your eyes at me. you have no idea if I've been here for 2 days or 4 years (its 4 years, you just don't quite know how to order your crazy drink mam)

3- if you want a crazy drink or more than 3 drinks and a bunch of food- COME INSIDE. You know how pressured we are to keep times down. You can get what you want itll just take a tiny bit longer.

4-NO BREWED ICED TEA LATTES IN DT. I will hate you forever. You now take at least 5 minutes to serve if not 6 or 7 if you get a bunch of stuff. The woman behind you now hates us both. Thanks. I know they are delicious- I get them all the time...inside.

5-please have grace for the partners behind the bar. You know how bad a day can go and we are all just trying to make it through. Please be kind.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk. I hope alot of new partners see this and maybe learn something they weren't aware of. They will know in time with experience. We just have to help them along in a kind way. Im tired of all the green bean hate😕

Get the Starbucks app on your phone, create an account if you don’t already have one. Go to a laptop, go to Starbucks.com, sign into the same account on your laptop and on your personal info, scroll to the bottom and add your partner numbers. Now you don’t have to show ID in addition to reciting your partner numbers at a different store!
furyathome 10 points 1y ago
Lol I’ve worked here 12 months and didn’t know this
FfierceLaw 5 points 1y ago
The laptop or desktop part is necessary, you can’t add your numbers on your phone. Also if it doesn’t accept your number (it didn’t mine) call partner resources, they got it done in a few minutes, apparently that happens
bingethinker16 1 points 1y ago
Not sure if this has changed, but after you click on partner markout/discount you can scan the partner card on the app and it will automatically fill in their partner numbers on the register.

Haven't tried this in a while so not sure if it still works.
nicathor 1 points 1y ago
If they have their numbers tied to their app then you don't even have to do anything on reg, it automatically detects them and prompts the person on reg the moment they scan, regardless of whether or not you hit the discount button. It's petty sweet.

This! And stop arguing with me up front that you “know you can get an iced chai in a trenta”. You cannot. Also I am the only shift here. If you want to pull attitude on me and ask to see my shift about me “refusing you service,” you’re not going to get far.

i checked her id and offered it in a venti. She got haughty and insisted I can mark it out because she’s a partner.
Sdee1234 [OP] 48 points 1y ago
This^^ just because you can get away with it in your own store doesnt mean you can elsewhere. I put my iced green tea latte in a trenta for the foam when i make it, when i go to other stores i order a venti. Its not that hard
TyrannicalKitty 28 points 1y ago
Why the ever living fuck would you want to drink like 26 ounces of milk.
Assiqtaq 5 points 1y ago
If someplace else is giving you a chai in a trenta, go there. You won't get it here.

I hate when someone argues with me about what I can and can't do. I have someone who continually tells me that her vanilla chai should be the same price as a regular chai and I'm the only one that upcharges her. Too bad for you lady, I'm sorry to hear that. If you don't want to pay the extra sixty cents, don't come to my kiosk when I'm there. You know better. And you also know the managers will back me and not you or you'd push it.

\#4 should be illegal.

Had a partner order 22 drinks at peak on a Saturday a week or two ago. No tip, no thank you, and no easy drinks. Just about strangled him.

Yes he was a 320.
Vosstonmass1 12 points 1y ago
Exactly! Honestly,??? I can deal with brand new partners and their bologna, but if you wanna order a bunch of dumb Shit?? Do it inside and not a drive thru.
jjd022980 2 points 1y ago
Omg seriously yep if they came to my store oh boy watch out! We had newbies do it in drive thru and bo oh boy our shift scared them lol needless to say ther store got a call and we got an apology lol

I had a partner pull up to window in this cute pink Jeep so I complimented her car.
I said something like “I love that your car is pink!”
She was like “Thanks.”
Then I said “It must match your personality.” She was like “I hope so.” I gave her a total and she started giving me her partner numbers. I asked to see her ID(she didn’t have the partner card on the app) and she gave me attitude while looking for her ID saying “No one has ever asked me that before.”
In my head I was thinking: Okay? What does that have to do with me?
I don’t remember her partner numbers but honestly, Every partner could benefit from this. Just Mind your manners.

Could have been the tiktok scam thing where they memorize the partner number (of the barista who served them on register) from a receipt and use it to get free drinks or discounts. It was a while ago but they would get overly offended if you asked for any other proof.

Barista could actually get fired if admin sees this kind of weird activity on their profiles, so please always ask for a partner card unless you know the person!

(also, starbucks has since removed partner numbers from the receipts)
Levinem717 7 points 1y ago
I’m a 197, and I initially was confused by the post. But then I remembered a rude barista from another store and it really baffles me how another barista can act, knowing damn well what we go through. So yeh I get it and it sucks. I’m also a trainer and I tend to sprinkle in a lot of personal knowledge rather than sticking to their bullshit script, and I find all my new green beans have that older Starbucks respect. But I’ve noticed Starbucks is having a harder time retaining experienced partners and are hiring really fast cause a lot of people have left.
everexanimate 7 points 1y ago
Obligatory, not a starbucks employee...but it seems like these are just normal human rules? Not just partner etiquette. Maybe I'm just crazy but, as a customer anywhere, I always try to be painfully aware of how annoying my requests may be and adjust accordingly. Sounds like some of these people are just assholes.
theshirtinthecloset 2 points 1y ago
And your right. At the end of the day, these new partners are just people and not all people are empathetic. I had a partner always come through drive through to get 4+ drinks plus food and I wondered why she wouldn't come inside. Come to find out she didn't enjoy her job and she quit. Now she comes through just for her drink
[deleted] 5 points 1y ago
Actually psa to everyone excluding numbers
cadmus1890 3 points 1y ago
It is absolutely 100% reasonable to note someone's name and partner number and call in a complaint if they treat you disrespectfully. God knows they're doing it to every other store they harass. Build the case by documentation. Call their SM, whatever. Fight back.
Assiqtaq 2 points 1y ago
So is Starbucks honestly up to 8 digits in their partner numbers? When I was official I was 7 digits, 14\*\*\*47, not that my numbers do anything anymore.
Sdee1234 [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Yes and no. When they reached 32*****, for some stupid reason they added an 8th digit. The jump weirded me out to
Assiqtaq 2 points 1y ago
That is just so odd. Is it to throw scammers off of guessing partner numbers maybe? Because I feel it doesn't really do anything in the long run.
uwumoment 1 points 1y ago
i’m a 320 and i just get waters or really easy refresher bevs unless my bar friend wants to make me a frap. i feel bad for you guys having to deal with the others
