Are we supposed to show our ID when we put our numbers in the app? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by crunchycookie28
I’ve talked about it with multiple managers and all have said that we don’t need an ID when doing that because it’s a whole process.

I went to a different Starbucks the other day and got a drink and food. I let her know I was a partner and asked if I could use my discount only since I had already used my food and drink. She said sure, and asked for my numbers. I told her they were in my app and asked if I could scan. She again repeated and asked for my numbers to which at that point I just scanned since I thought she had heard me before. She looked at me expectantly and I said oh the name is crunchycookie28. She said she needed an ID. To which I explained (the only time I didn’t carry my ID btw omg) I didn’t need one since it was in my card. She literally said “no sweetie, you need an ID. you probably don’t know this but no store anywhere will accept you without one.” She kept trying to argue with me insinuating I was new and clueless in a very condescending tone (I’ve been a partner for almost three years.) I don’t like confrontation so in the end I just said whatever and that I’d just pay for it. Then I again quote she said “since im nice I’ll give it to you this time, hun” and let my discount go through. I asked her how much it was and she said she used my mark out. I let her know I had asked for my discount only because I already used my mark out and didn’t want to get in trouble (my manager is strict.) she just laughed and said you’re welcome. She then walked away to talk to the barista on the oven so I felt kind of helpless. What would you do in this situation? And what is the actual policy on the partner card? Thanks in advance

You are right, page 70 of the partner guide explicitly says that you can use your partner card on the app instead of showing a photo ID. I really wish all stores would just follow that policy, it's strict enough to prevent fraudulent use of benefits and protects people whose names no longer match what's on their government IDs. The fact that you were talked down to about it is even worse. Sorry that happened.

Thank you so much!! I was pretty sure I was told it was in the book. I appreciate your words because god, that was stressful!

I can’t help you with much but I do know that our store requires an ID for partner numbers now. I’ve also been to other stores in my area that don’t. So it’s just kind of up to the store I guess? No matter what store I go to I always make sure I have my ID just in case.

Thank you I try to always but this time I left it in my partner’s car and he was at work!😩
