So I’m starting a new store Monday and early this morning was in a car accident, I got hit by a drunk driver, it looks like it will be a few weeks until either my car is fixed or I get an insurance check to buy a new one, my store is a $20 Uber ride one way which makes it really not realistic to spend $40 a day on Ubers. Do you think I can postpone my start date or just have to find a new job? I’m not sure what to do.

I think Starbucks offers reimbursement for employees with transportation issues, and free buss fair. Otherwise I’d let the SM know your situation, I’ve worked at stores where my car died before my shift and the SM personally offered to pick me up from work and take me home. May not be the same situation for you, but maybe a partner would be willing to carpool with you.

Thank you for the response, yeah it looks like it will be a few weeks for either a repair or a new car. I live in south Florida and really don’t want to wait out in the heat and rain for a bus so if they don’t let me push back a start date I’ll probably just look for something else after I get my car back.

I don’t know exactly how it works but I heard of a limited amount of free Lyft rides a week!

In my area it’s 20 free a month , but only before 6 am and after 6pm

At my Starbucks I get benefits that allow a free Lyft ride before 6am and after 6pm (all I did was look up Starbucks Lyft and it came up)

I would definitely talk to your SM ASAP. i was in this exact scenario a few months ago…i easily dropped over $200 on uber rides within a week 😃

Oh god yeah that’s crazy, I hope they let me start at a later date if not I’ll have to find something else. Having no car right now is really stressful and difficult to deal with.

I had a partner get their car stolen, and they were able to use the P card to pay for Ubers to and from work. You should see if that’s an option.
