Hey guys, so today I ran into a situation and I wanna know what you think will probably happen.

A couple days ago a coworker asked me to pick up his shift for today and I told him I might be able to but I would have to check to see if I could and that I would let him know. I guess I forgot to press the send button for the text I wrote to tell him that I couldn’t take it last night because I woke up to a call from one of my shifts. She asked me if I was coming in and said that when she called him, he said that I agreed to take it and it was approved a couple weeks ago. She was confused because nothing was ever wrote down or confirmed though. I told her that never happened and that I never actually agreed to cover but that I had just said maybe but that I couldn’t work today.

So now the question comes into play. What do you think is gonna happen? Could I get in trouble for not going in even though I never actually agreed to work and it wasn’t my shift? Or is he possibly gonna get in trouble? I feel like I shouldn’t get in trouble, but since it’s just a he said she said situation, I’m a little anxious that they may not believe me. Anyone ever go through something like this? What happened if you did?

Definitely the fault of your coworker.

i mean, idk what your store environment is like, but i imagine all that will happen is you’ll have a little sit down with your coworker and manager and connect about what happened. maybe have a conversation about communication. i doubt anyone is going to get in trouble — it just seems like some miscommunication. ultimately, it is your coworker’s responsibility to find coverage so even if there were consequences, i doubt it’d be on you

Your coworker assumed you were going to come in. That’s 100% their fault. I’d be so pissed if any of my coworkers did that to me
