I’m a naturally cheery person. Today, I greeted a customer my normal upbeat way, with “hi, my name is i_jlp_you! What’s yours?”
This woman goes “Karen with a K!”
I respond with “hi, Karen with a K! What can I get going for you?” Meanwhile I’m thinking “haha oh no, her name is Karen” but jokingly. Not all Karen’s are actually Karen™️, after all.
She says, “wow! If I was having a bad day you’d cheer me right up!” I was flattered tbh, so I thanked her, then took her order, and she’s on her way.
My coworker at the window is a naturally calm, chill dude. He was also pretty tired so not very energetic like I was. He greets her with a “hi, how are you doing today?” In a calm tone, but still nice and polite.
This lady goes “wow, I expected the same high energy as when I ordered! Why aren’t you like the person who took my order?” My coworker is like “haha, I’m just a little tired today”. Then this woman has THE AUDACITY to say “no one who works at Starbucks should EVER complain about being tired” in a half-joking, half-serious tone. Even if my coworker wasn’t tired, he doesn’t have that type of personality. Karen is not owed high energy hype men from every employee.
