Beverage routine though is technically steaming milk first always, queue shots and THEN pump syrup while your shots are getting ready to pull. Not sure if you meant to have it in the correct order or not, but this is a nice detailed recipe guide for green beans away from work (considering the iPad and the recipe cards).

Really? Huh, we were taught to pour the syrup first before the shots so that they mix a little better (or something like that)
sydbey_38 points1y ago
Well yes your shots go over syrup but I’m saying the beverage routine is to pump your syrup while your shots are beginning to pull, and when they begin pulling obv put your cup underneath and swirl or mix, unless it’s a macchiato

u/sydbey_ is right! Barista trainer here, beverage routine is, steam milk, queue shots (push the button), while the grinder is going you pump the syrup into your cup. Catch the shots into the cup, finish then connect!

I’ve been lied to, cheated, and quite honestly, bamboozeled
sydbey_10 points1y ago
Lol sounds like you’ve been doing it right for the most part, beverage routine is just supposed to help with sequencing and optimizing how much time you’re working while the machine is also working (auto steaming, auto pulling).

I haven’t even gotten an email to interview yet and my brains like “write that down”

If you also google "Starbucks green bean cheatsheet" you'll see some helpful diagrams. I made my own when I was a trainer (trained 11 people). I know I still have it somewhere if you want it.
this is a cool idea i feel like ppl hate on those who write things down to learn and remember things, like i write a list when i’m on cs to remember what i need and people think it’s weird. it’s cool!
deeciphered10 points1y ago
I keep a tiny notebook in my apron pocket while working and write down things I need to remember/struggle with.
For the most part I'm good on drink recipes but CS stuff is harder for me since I don't do CS super often so I have notes on that.

Id love to see each page and tab. Been here 6 months but you honestly never stop learning

Very cool! Not sure if this was an accident, but the honey almond flat white uses almond milk, not 2%, jsyk! Also, the regular flat whites use whole milk (:
AddisonLacaire [OP]2 points1y ago
Holy shit thank you, I’ll go change that
olivinemultichrome4 points1y ago
Also, the shots on the caramel macchiato should be poured on top of the milk, not before the milk

I’m the second oldest partner at my store (I’m 25 in a store of mostly 17-20 year olds) they call me mom and I refer lovingly to all of them as “my babies” I’d like to bestow upon you honorary baby status ♥️ fly free
AddisonLacaire [OP]2 points1y ago
It’s an honor ❤️

I used to do this as well with a pocket notebook. While I don't use it anymore, it really helped me memorize fundamentals. Definantly keep filling it out and using it
Improvmomolyfe2 points1y ago
This is so cute! When I train, I try to provide a nice little notebook and a pen to take notes. Cuz writing on printer paper AINT IT
missthemac2 points1y ago
This is super smart!!

Goodluck! I had the worst trainer, did'nt even like it when I asked questions. When I told them there was something wrong with the food display, they just dismissed it like nothing. So I brought it up to the manager (who I did'nt know was a manager btw, I thought was just another supervisor), then action was taken to remove the food. The fellow green bean who I was with, was not helping at all (apparently the asm was her significant other).

Youre doin too much. Not that I don't appreciate it or think it's amazing. THEY don't appreciate you enough for you to put this much work in. I know from experience. Looking at this I can tell you have a great work ethic...they will never pay you your worth. And I mean this as a compliment.
AddisonLacaire [OP]2 points1y ago
I have a knack for picking jobs that will severely over work you and under pay you. Fortunately, I’ll be in the Marine Corps in 10 months! Oh wait…
mama_bibi1 points1y ago
I wish we had some more of you at our store. Work ethic is a hard thing to find 🥲
roseshrub1 points1y ago
Oh my goodness you are so cute! 🥺 I’ve never seen a green bean put a whole notepad together like that.
