well y'all, it finally gonna be over. as of monday, my two weeks notice is hitting my manager's desk. started febuary 2017. gave over four years of my life to the siren, only to be insulted to my face by my manager for requesting less hours a week (our district minimum is 20 for ssv, i asked for 25). i'm the most tenured partner in our store, i'm the most tenured shift. i stuck it out through everything. but i have finally snapped!!!

and i've already found alternate employment, that has the exact schedule i want, pays better, is equal in benefits, isn't food service or even retail, will help pay for my school, gives me free un-earned vacation days just because, i'll get to dress like a normal person and get my nails done and work hours that normal human beings work. so my only guilt is leaving my poor coworkers behind with our tyrant manager who refuses to work on the floor, write a schedule accommodating the school year (yes, she managed to fuck up the schedule of high schoolers), or give any support whatsoever to anyone having a problem. in the month of september, she's gonna be down three shift supervisors, and i suspect another one is on the brink of quitting.

managers, please don't abandon your employees. please don't disrespect people who have practically lived in your store, who have built green apron boards and stayed late countless times just to put away the truck, or send someone who's not having a good day home early.

and partners, please don't settle for shitty treatment. i know that for food service, starbucks gives great benefits. but there are more places than you'd think that will take you as you are, wherever you're at with a degree or experience. i applied a lot of places, didn't hear from a lot, but got 5 interviews in a week. two offers less than 24 hours after my first interview. you are valuable. don't let starbucks trick you into thinking that that's all you're good for. you can find something better if you want to.

the way you market the siren is as "Customer Service" but you play up the dealing with customer concerns. if you're an SSV, it's easier to play up the order/inventory management, daily scheduling, learning new technology systems like IMS and the pull and mydaily, but even as a barista, cash handling, customer familiarity, and the stbx computer system are all good to mention. on my resume, i listed my previous job at panera, and as a nanny, and listed my volunteer work, made up a semi-decent typing speed (60wpm) and said i knew microsoft office (because we all kinda do).

i applied mostly for customer service representative positions in banks, medical clinics, manufacturers, and trade offices. in my state, average pay for a CSR is ~$16 and up. you have to carefully read listings to make sure they're not looking for experience you don't have (like some people want sales experience, or experience with a specific computer program) but as long as they're broad, you're in the clear.

for interviewing, think of customer scenarios that weren't just fixed by you remaking their coffee like a servant. think of times you got an unhappy customer talking to you civilly, or a customer you and your coworkers love and went above and beyond for.

i'm about to be a CSR for a bank, not bank telling, but opening business accounts and handling business representative questions and complaints. they're going to train me on all of it, i have no technical experience for this. but i walked out of that interview and they offered the job to me within an hour.

Wooo so happy for you!
I was with sbux for only about 6 months before I quit, but before that I had been working in food service/retail for about 9 years. Sbux was my last service job before I found a relaxing janitorial job that pays way better, and is super flexible. I’m thankful for Sbux for finally making me have a huge mental breakdown and realize that the service industry just wasn’t for me LOL.
you should celebrate tonight! Congratulations! 🍾🎊🎉🎈
