So me and my friend both work at Starbucks and we got exposed to covid. My friend was scheduled to work tomorrow morning and told his manager that he was exposed and didn’t feel comfortable exposing his coworkers and customers to covid. His manager and his store manager both straight up told him he still had to come in. Is that fucked up or are we over thinking it?

It is fucked up. There are a lot of factors to consider but you can always choose to not work if you don’t feel safe about it.

According to the covid rules, as soon as he shows up and states he's contacted someone who tested positive they must send him home....
Codyskank18 points1y ago
How many examples do you want of Starbucks not following their own rules?

If the partner has disclosed vaccination status exposure doesn't count. You are still cleared to work, and also excluded from isolation pay, unless you display symptoms.

How? he’s literally being forced to go in
Codyskank20 points1y ago
How are they forcing him? Threat of being fired or something? Management will always be pushing the boundaries because most people won’t fight back or say no and so they get away with a lot of things they shouldn’t. There are resources within Starbucks for you if you feel like you’re being treated wrongly. Things can be escalated above the store manager.

They keep saying he needs to come in if he doesn’t have a positive covid test, but he can’t get tested right now

Here’s a list of resources. https://globalassets.starbucks.com/assets/27cf14ec624744ccb127db673a933407.pdf I’d recommend giving the PRSC a try first and explain the situation and see what they recommend. I feel like it could potentially be a legal/ethics issue but I don’t know the whole story.

Covid coach states once you’ve come in contacted with someone whose tested positive you’re required to self isolate for 10 days with or without a test. Our store had this happen except it was a partner and everyone who had worked with them prior had to self isolate with no other option even if they tested negative and were symptom free. Our district manager had to enforce it even when our GM was reluctant because the store hours got cut dramatically because of the lack of staff. I’d reach out to district or pcc. That’s not in anyway appropriate.

Also depends if you have been vaxxed too. Where I live. VAXXED ppl don't quarantine unless/until they present symptoms. Crazy crazy.
csaine7 points1y ago
It is crazy since delta variant can be carried and passed by vaccinated people with no symptoms!
mmpotpie781 points1y ago
My SM suggested I come in even when I was having symptoms. 😬
paintthatface1 points1y ago
Take the COVID coach. You don’t just get quarantined after getting exposed. It’s someone you have close contact with (like a S/O or someone you live with)
csaine1 points1y ago
Last I checked the CDC defined close contact as being around a positive person for about 15 minutes.
paintthatface0 points1y ago
That may or may not be true but go through the COVID coach and close contact is defined as sharing bodily fluids, living with someone, etc. That’s why SMs can still make people to come in with exposure. It sucks but that’s how it is currently

Wow, I thought they were following CDC guidelines. That's really messed up imo. They're just asking for outbreaks with a policy like that.
