Our store has a MAJOR fly problem right now…and they are in our food case. Some lady came into cafe and basically hunted us down to tell us this..like ma’am we know they’re in there. Thanks. 🤦‍♀️

Why do they assume the food in the case is what they will be given? Have they ever seen us pull from the case?

I've definitely seen a barista give a customer the ham and cheese croissant from the case. I had to track him down in the lobby to give him a new one somehow miraculously before he started eating the first one.

at our store we are told to serve from the pastry case?? we can only serve the pastry items and they are replaced daily, but sometimes there are flies in there. how many health code violations is this?

You might have one of the old refrigerated cases too, back a couple of years ago my old store had one and we would serve pastries out of it (but not breakfast items, ew). The flies are still definitely an issue though, that’s gross

Yeah mine used to be refrigerated and we served pastries from it when we ran out of pastries in the pastry cart. Just a little bit stale and crusty lol

This morning someone accidentally gave a customer the stale af display fruit toast from our case. Oops. Been opened three days and we already have a fly problem too...

Fruit toast is the only display item we have, we use all the other cakes/pastries (Scotland based SB) in the case 🙊 We opened on Friday so we're all still learning as we go 😂

When they hunt us down I say, “I know, we don’t ever serve that food to customers it is only for display and we throw it out and sanitize it each night. I honestly don’t know how they get in there since it is shut at all times after food is put in there.”

The new cases don’t have any air flow which doesn’t help. It just stays stagnate and it’s not cold to deter them

We were wrapping out pastries in Saran Wrap for a few weeks helped sooo much and got the illegal liquid fly traps with vinegar. Cut it down to a manageable amount…. Until our dm came in and made us stop wrapping them, but it helped long enough to make a difference… 🤷🏻‍♀️
