We have a store manager looking over our store because our store manager quit. I recently got a way better job that required me to start on a specific day for training. I gave them my resignation letter and stated that I could only give them a 1 and a half week notice because of this. And they’re requiring me to find coverage for 4 days of shifts after my stated last day. However so many people in my store have just stopped showing up and quit in that way. Yet me not being able to give them a full 2 weeks is made a big deal. I’m not going to lose out on this job over Starbucks.
Update: I didn’t bother showing up to my last shift and was never even called or texted by anyone asking where I was. Guess it didn’t matter!
Juli3anna269 points1y ago
Just don’t show up why are they gonna do ? Lmao
Its_Not_Nia [OP]102 points1y ago
I just hate that she’s texting me asking if I’ve found coverage
looker009213 points1y ago
Text her back and tell her yes, you can cover me.
morthos97125 points1y ago
*mic drop*
*45 plastic lids fall too because it's not a cordless mic and everything got all tangled up*
*more sacrifices to the lid gods*
royrogersmacfreely1 points1y ago
This. This right here 👌🏼
ChezShea67 points1y ago
Just block her number. No more texts!
Seriously_jst_4real41 points1y ago
Just tell her due to staffing shortages in your store you've not found any yet. If you want to be extra generous you could ask her if she knows any partners from other stores (if you aren't the only store in your town) that you could contact.
But ultimately, if you don't plan on returning to the company at any point, don't stress, if you ever list them on your resume all they can do is confirm employment if they are contacted, they can't disclose details.
square_pulse13 points1y ago
Sounds like my old SM. She text bombed me on my day off to come to work.
AshlingA5 points1y ago
Reply. I have given my notice, per corporate standards any coverage for after my last available day is up to the manager to find. I am sorry you’re stuck in this position but will not be bullied into doing your job for you. I have given my notice and my last availability. Have a good day. If I am contacted over this anymore I will have to file with the HR ethics as that is harassment.
coffeesparklez164 points1y ago
You don't have to find coverage. Start your new job. THE SM just doesn't want to figure it out. What are they going to do? Fire you?
voxinx105 points1y ago
You literally have a new job already lined up, just quit lol.
Its_Not_Nia [OP]74 points1y ago
Honesty considering just not showing up for my last day so I don’t have to see her
howdudo29 points1y ago
2 weeks notice is a courtesy. If I liked the shifts for those days Id at least tell them I wasnt going in
jShag201415 points1y ago
don't
square_pulse11 points1y ago
Yeah you don't have to. I quit on the spot. Called my SM and then said "sorry I can't handle this anymore. Not gonna put in my 2 weeks, sorry about that", got manipulated into "finishing the rest of the week", but I said so, wished them a great weekend with a lot of productivity and hung up.
I felt liberated af.
LilKaySigs71 points1y ago
You have to find coverage? What’re they gonna do? Fire you? LMAO
romansapprentice44 points1y ago
>they’re requiring me to find coverage for 4 days of shifts after my stated last day
"Requiring" you? What are they going to do, show up to your house and arrest you lol? Just stop showing up tbh.

Lmao what are they gonna do, Write you up for it? They can go fuck themselves
Delphyne67923 points1y ago
All it is, is a professional courtesy… they can Fuck right off
truecrimeANDchill22 points1y ago
Your SM is being lazy af. Sincerely, An SM
Dismal_Beginning_19915 points1y ago
Dude it seems to happening at every Starbucks I think ppl are finally having enough of the BS
lilluvsplants11 points1y ago
Literally tell them it was a courtesy before, but not anymore. They can find coverage themselves. Unless you need that last paycheck, fuck em and dip
Edit: a word
Meggilli919 points1y ago
The ONLY reason you’d ever give formal 2weeks notice to an employer is if you want to use them as a reference in the future. Other than that, you can happily quit on the spot and leave! It’s Starbucks lmao
thepoopbathroom8 points1y ago
What are they gonna do if you don’t? Fire you?
OMGitsJewelz7 points1y ago
If you know you will never need to return to Starbucks and dont mind being labelled 'unhireable' then just don't show up 🤷♀️ you gave your notice. It's literally not gourtjob anymore.
If the SM doesn't stop badgering you about it, straight up tell them you can't find coverage and you're not going to. What are they gonna do?
Its_Not_Nia [OP]6 points1y ago
She’s been so annoying saying they’re going to miss me when she’s been there a week and has never bothered to get to know me
square_pulse2 points1y ago
Shouldn't bother with that at all. SBux has so many employees and every week new green beans...no one bothers...the high turn over won't stop, so it's ok if you just walk away. I would only out of politeness call in and quit on the spot instead of a no show.
noeyoureatowel3 points1y ago
Honestly, it doesn’t even make you unhireable if you just up and quit. I left in 2013 on immediate notice and no coverage found and was rehired just fine in 2018.
GiveMeCoffeeFreeze6 points1y ago
The only repercussion, if the SM is petty, is that they might put you on the “do not rehire” list. But since you’re giving them 1.5 weeks I hope they wouldn’t be that petty.
MemesandSpeech1 points1y ago
Hold up, there's a "don't rehire" list? SINCE WHEN!?
jaynaenae1 points1y ago
When someone is separated, SMs list a yes or no rehire recommendation. That’s it. it’s a recommendation to future hiring managers at this moment in time. It really doesn’t mean much.
CoffeeIslander4 points1y ago
Really, I always recommend fulfilling a proper 2-weeks just because of the off-chance that you ever need this job back it makes you re-hirable. BUUUUUUT, if you found a better job and you're absolutely sure you will never need this one back, FLY FREE! I wouldn't hold it against you. And I've also seen people who quit with NO notice get rehired and I'm like what? So I guess proper notice isn't actually as important as they keep telling me it is!?
Its_Not_Nia [OP]9 points1y ago
I’ve been here for over 4 years, just graduated with a business degree. I would rather work anywhere else than come back here 😭 I’m getting paid more per hour at my new job with commissions on top of that and I won’t have to be running around stressed while getting yelled at by customers. I transferred to this store from my original one and would be able to use my old SM and old ASM as references if needed too.
dallizzlee3 points1y ago
Lol what are they gonna do if you don’t find coverage. No repercussions, you already quit. Byeeee
cyan_reynolds2 points1y ago
You absolutely don't have to find coverage. Two weeks is only a courtesy, not a legal requirement.
Webshooter381 points1y ago
Ummm... You aren't required to find coverage for those days lol. They may not hire you back for 5 years, but so what
rlogranite1 points1y ago
Don't worry about it, Starbucks will manage.
WillaFox1 points1y ago
I put in my 2 weeks on Friday. But then they proved to me in 2 days that they don't give 2 shits that I'm a person so I just quit an hour ago. I'm going to work for an actual Coffee Shop that the owners get their hands dirty and work along side you.
Elliotisnotokay1 points1y ago
Just post it once and if no one takes them just no call no show. Its not your problem any more
drinkliquidclocks1 points1y ago
You already have the new job, I would have not showed up ever again 😅 fuck em!
Sissy-Bee1 points1y ago
Tell them to go to hell. Don't let it worry you. You so what's best for you. Cuz they will replace you in a heartbeat.
lewabwee1 points1y ago
That’s fucking hilarious.
goodtombs1 points1y ago
Just don’t show up. We’ve had a mass quitting which I’ve just recently joined at my store. One girl was moving and she couldn’t find coverage for her shifts. It’s up to the store manager to find coverage ultimately. Sadly ours didn’t find any, so we just had to work those days understaffed which just so happens to line up with the week everyone returns to my university town 🙄
MissyMissyMaeMae1 points1y ago
Another thing to consider is the fact that if they either fired or laid you off they wouldn’t give you the courtesy of a 2 week notice. I also try to always give a 2 week notice but if that 2 weeks will possibly keep me from moving to a better opportunity, then so be it. You have to look out for yourself because your employer won’t.
Abaracadavera1 points1y ago
Yeah don’t do it. Fuck them
MemesandSpeech1 points1y ago
Honestly it's your managers prob. Had the same situation your going thru (our store won't be cleaned properly, people not doing their job, etc. Funny thing: I quit but I'm still In the group chat and hear EVERYTHING) If you got a better opportunity, take it!
anitasdoodles1 points1y ago
Fuck ‘em.
Mcnugget_unlimited1 points1y ago
You’re fine that happened to me and I just didn’t show. Though I did give 2 weeks notice and they still scheduled me past the last day. But same as you I’m not about to miss out on my new job opportunity especially since it paid was more.
Tiny-Focus49370 points1y ago
Quit.
itsmekendar0 points1y ago
The only thing that will happen of you don't is that you possibly won't be able to be rehired at Starbucks in the future.
