To the partners who quit their job… (so, a lot of you lol) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by gemlikbase
I left the company years ago, and came back this year and it’s, as a lot of you know, not the same. And when I read posts about partners quitting and why, it makes me grow more resentful towards this company.

I wish I could just up and leave too. Problem is, I need health insurance and I don’t have a job lined up. With that being said, how are you guys paying for your bills? I’m not out to make anyone feel bad either, if anything I’m jealous for those of you who will, I’m sure, repair your physical and mental well-being sans chaos.

It’s so sad to live in a time where the job you have cannot accommodate the bare minimum of living a life of stability. And by that I mean simple making ends meet. The reality is, we need insurance, and yes- working a avg of 20 hours for insurance is great. But it doesn’t pay our bills. Or help us save money. You’d need a second job. But you’re exhausted from your regular job. And if you had 2 jobs, you need to balance other parts of life- whether you have kids, or mental health, physical health, social health- doing things you enjoy. We shouldn’t have to sacrifice these things but we do just to get by.

To answer your question- I got a second job bartending to help pay bills. And I live with my boyfriend and we have a 6 month old. We do Wag (pet boarding app) and he door dashes here and there. If a second job isn’t an option- eliminate as many monthly expenses as you can so you don’t have so many bills to pay every month (example-paid off his car, canceled a gym membership, cancelled cable, etc). It’s a tough world we’re living in and not suited for anyone but the upper class. It’s sad and I hope something changes.

For me coffee wasn't my skills as much. I am able to line up another job because of my talents and Fashion past experience in retial.
Also because my mum career she basically wanted everywhere right now as a nurse help or aid. My mum pays the rent. I have to live with her cause of covid-19.
Also my careers are white collars and blue collars job after starbucks.
I got super lucky cause of school.

I rather wake up at 5am for all of my jobs now though than to have to serve coffee again. I realize how much me working at Starbucks even effected my friends self esteem cause they didn't want me to go through the same thing. I went back to fashion.
They enjoy my outfits and stuff it seems like it helps them also. Seeing me human.

They hired me at $18 when shifts here normally start at $13.40. I was coming from management at Whole Foods and wouldn't take this job if they offered any less so the SM that hired me got me in. I was supposed to go into the ASM program but no one has said anything and I don't want to anymore lol. I'm holding out for another cafe thats opening up near here and if they offer me at least $18 I'm going to go there instead.
