I hate how much food is wasted! (US) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AUserNameThatsTaken1
Before I left I had to dump all the food from the pastry case and there was a family right in front of it that seen me dumping the food and had some wtf faces. And the dad asked “Do y’all really just throw away the food like that?!?!?” to which I was had to be very honest with him and tell him that we do even though we don’t like to do it. I told him how in Canada they have cardboard pictures of the food and never have to do this or worry about flies. He told me that he always assumed we had plastic models. I had set aside everything I was doing (mostly cause there wasn’t much to do) and told him about the bs of Starbucks wasting food. I told him that no matter how many employee surveys we baristas fill out that they won’t stop unless a customer like him self were to complain about it and there would be a much higher chance of them actually listening to them rather than us since they only care how they look to the customers. I told him that they only started the food share program because they were getting a bad rep thanks to people finding out how much food was being thrown out. I wanted to tell him about all the other bs but needed to finish what I was doing so I could leave. I honestly can’t believe they even waste food since if they were to switch to plastic models or cardboard pics they would be saving so much money every year.

This what I’ve been saying for yeaaaars!!! (223 here) I cannot fathom how much food Starbucks throws away!

On top of that, why the F are we using actual food for the display??? Even Barnes and Noble has like rubber versions of their food.

Go digital!! Use pictures!! As someone who grew up food insecure it pisses me off so much.

We throw out our entire food delivery up to a couple times a week for being a degree or two out of temp. Like the breakfast sandwiches, paninis and protein boxes. It makes me sick. Sometimes we get a few good weeks at a time where everything is normal but then we’re throwing everything out again. It’s disgusting.
