So I have somewhere to be this weekend, and I found someone who was willing to take my shift. I texted my manager to clear it with them and they said no, because in their words the partner is “brand new and still needs a lot of practice.” I’m wondering if they could take action against me if I decided to call out?

I say ask the partner, do it through the partner hours app and if your SM rejects it tell them you’ve tried to find coverage and that if they are short handed that day it’s on them… and do it over text so you have that paper trails- your manager cant do much other than yell at you and if they do anything rash bring your DM into it.

this is good advice thank you, but I wonder if requesting over the hours app after they’ve said no would send the wrong message?

It would, but at the end of the day you’ve used every resource you could to get coverage for that day.
