Most important thing is don’t overwhelm them. Dumb everything down. Baristas have a tendency to over explain things & I found that really confusing starting out.
They’ll get so much advice from other barista along the way. Just be the trainer they can go to for solid simple answers. I hate when ppl try to chime in with “their way of doing things”

the difference between adding cream and a splash of cream into a drink, like how to ring them up on the register and how to read the sticker and make that drink. that took me FOREVER to wrap my head around

Be patient and give positive feedback when appropriate.
At the end of each day tell your newbie what he did good and what he can improve on for next time.

The coffee brewing cycle!! I trained at a super low traffic store, so my trainer was able to give me a bunch of complicated drinks to practice ringing up, and that was very helpful as well :-) good luck!

Focus on the standards at first. Don't teach them the shortcuts, they'll learn those on their own lol.

My trainer has been really overwhelming me with a lot of info all at once. Try to chunk things out maybe?
Also they keep telling me things as if I have background knowledge of the company (or even food service, which I don’t have either). Don’t use acronyms or nicknames for things (at first).

please don’t leave them alone 🥴 let them ask questions! Write things down. One of my stores trainers wrote down the shots and syrups on a sticky note for hot bar and that really helps! We also have a chest sheet over our cold bar for how to make fraps

Honestly, just train the other baristas to not be jerks to the green beans while they learn.
