Is this how you were trained? This isn’t standard at all, it’s perfectly appropriate to order a tall in a grande with extra whatever besides ice.
Blue-Jay275 points1y ago
Why besides ice? Sizing the cup up seems like the only way to get a good bit of extra ice in a cup
noeyoureatowel9 points1y ago
I worded that badly, I meant that extra ice isn’t the only allowable modifier/product when sizing up.
Blue-Jay272 points1y ago
Ah, yeah that makes more sense
carcinophile29 points1y ago
If I'm petty about it, I'll use the smaller size cup to measure before dumping everything into a bigger cup, but otherwise you are allowed to order tall in a grande with extra whipped cream or whatever.
[deleted] [OP]28 points1y ago
Wait are we not allowed to do that? Why wouldn't they be allowed to use the extra room for extra product if they're paying for the add-on already?
_lips_like_sugar_9 points1y ago
Bc the extra they order still isnt enoigh to fill the cup and they know it. They end up getting extra of everything.
miniinovaa1 points1y ago
You can put extra in the tall. They just want more product for less
[deleted] [OP]2 points1y ago
I understand that but I am wondering if it’s a change that corporate made recently. I might have missed it. I can believe it might have been changed since it’s similar to the price charge on extra milk or dairy substitutes exceeding 4oz. Personally I haven’t encountered any SM who said sizing up wasn’t allowed so I’m wondering if the policy changed.
miniinovaa2 points1y ago
In my experience sizing up is fine, but you should get charged for it. For example if they want a tall latte in a grande cup, extra milk. You should do a milk charge or charge for a grande latte with a single shot. I would personally give whatever is the cheaper option out of those two. All managers I’ve had agree
marilynmansonsbitch20 points1y ago
This actually is how it works. Im sorry.
angrylilbean19 points1y ago
I don’t agree whatsoever. they’re paying extra for the foam, give them as much as they want. A tall in a grande with extra foam is not the same as a grande. completely different ratios
inappropriatemove0 points1y ago
I’m just confused because the customer who orders a grande vsc extra foam extra cream and the customer who orders a tall vsc extra foam extra cream in grande cup are getting the same drink but one customer is paying more. I had always been trained and read that in a ____ cup meant room in the cup for customer who like room or whatever. But I guess I’m wrong
angrylilbean15 points1y ago
they’re not getting the same drink. one is getting more cold brew, which is the base of the drink and should be charged as such. the other stuff is add ons, and we don’t charge extra for the amount of add ons. that’s like saying you’d have to charge extra for each extra pump of syrup they get.

I don’t worry about these sorts of issues - the only thing it affects is Starbucks. It doesn’t harm or inconvenience partners or customers so I don’t want to stress about it. The customer isn’t getting anything over on me personally. They aren’t scamming my system or screwing me over so I don’t mind
jowens879812 points1y ago
Babe, babe, this is a job… you are not losing any money off your paycheck. Starbucks is not worth all that stress. Literally corporate doesn’t give a damn about you or that tall in a grande cup. I promise it doesn’t matter, stop stressing yourself out for $10-12/hr
kaitrsmith7 points1y ago
if they’re paying who cares, y’all can’t complain about these customers and simultaneously make the job harder for yourself. water off a ducks back baby!
goodtombs2 points1y ago
I honestly only care when the customer is an ass about it. I don’t care if ur scamming this multimillion dollar corporation, just be nice to me please and not an asshole if its ‘wrong’
icedcarfee2 points1y ago
you’re high key just being a jerk. it is NOT the same amount because with EXTRA (hence more product they’re paying for) it doesn’t all fit in there. if you have such a problem with putting more product in a grande cup just add a little extra ice as well. why do you owe starbucks anyways? stop being like that.
FfierceLaw2 points1y ago
The sweet cream, the foams, and customer behavior seeking increasing amounts of it has become gross to me
escapeorion2 points1y ago
Honest question from a non-starbucks barista: if I just want the extra ice, is it annoying to order a grande in a venti cup? Like if I understand that it may not be full and all I’m getting is extra ice, am I good?
melodiic_4 points1y ago
not at all!! order your drink how you want it, just make sure to specify if you order in person that you just want extra ice and not extra of anything else! people who get mad at customers for basic modifications are just being petty, we literally get paid to make drinks it's not worth getting mad about
