Hear me out… what if the raises don’t happen? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Do we quit then? I’m a 264****… I’ve seen it all. The people who taught me are all dead and gone. I’m dead and gone but remain to dawn the apron at sunrise or til the sun has set and the crackheads roam the streets. I’ve been spit on… robbed… demeaned… all while clocked in. Before Covid… it was shitty. During the beginning of Covid- it was shitty… now that we’ve all got the Covid coach memorized and have lost over 100 thermometers, it’s still shitty. I graduate soon and won’t need this job but let’s be honest… none of us need this job as much as it needs us. That’s all been said, we’ve all read the rants. This is not a rant. I’m just asking what we do when we realize the raises don’t really even make a difference? Or worse, they never happen? What do we actually do? Both outcomes suck. Can we do anything? I’m open to brainstorming cuz everything is already bleak and cloudy.

It’s not a raise, it’s a cost of living adjustment. Taking into account inflation, many of us will be making less than we made last year sadly.

What should be done? Can we do anything?

The unionization effort in Buffalo NY is a great start. Other than that Starbucks only responds to being publically shamed in the media. 😎

We can’t publicly shame, that’s a grandiose venture because just look at how grossly treated Amazon employees have suffered. People still buy and support Amazon products. The chokehold that Starbs has on its customers with its marketing and silent partnership with tiktok will never allow for that to happen. What else?
BeardiesRule112 28 points 1y ago
By publicly shaming Starbs, that’s how we got our COVID leave in the beginning of this whole thing so it does work, just has to be a collective effort!

I also think there’s a national strike in oct… oct 15th I think…?

Honestly there has never been a better time to look for a new job. If lots of people walk out maybe they will realize something needs to change.

The best idea is to form a labor union. The Seattle district wanted to do this when COVID started. In order to prevent them from doing it, Starbucks decided to temporarily close most of its stores.

I’m on the verge of quitting myself. I haven’t really had a good time since being hired in December. I feel unwelcome at work whenever I am scheduled. Heck I’m not even getting scheduled enough to qualify for benefits. If things keep up I’m just going to quit and go full time at my second job. I can figure out meds and school some other way. I just know this isn’t worth it.

Just find a new job lol

But I don’t want a new job. I want this one to facilitate the opportunities it has been preaching to create.
