Does this bother anyone else? I call them fraps or Frappuccino’s but omg frappe drives me insane. I swear it’s nothing to do with like being pretentious it’s just like bro can you read pls
bananaberrry139 points1y ago
it’s bc mcdonald’s calls them frappes
caughdeighy38 points1y ago
it's because the beverage is and was traditionally called a frappe lol
interyx38 points1y ago
I find it ironic that a traditional frappe actually more resembles a Starbucks Double shot on Ice, or Shaken Espresso as they recently changed the name.
Frappes first popped up in Greece is in the 50s-60s; they used Nescafe instant coffee shaken with sugar and milk to make a frothy coffee drink.
Modern Frappuccinos come from a New England coffee chain that Starbucks bought out in order to use the trademarked name. It's why they push us so hard to say frappuccino, because it reinforces brand recognition and that name was paid for with hard cash. If you look in the standards for calling out beverages we're actually supposed to say "frappuccino blended beverage" every time we call one out. Which is a little far imo, lol.
MrChaotic0315 points1y ago
Starbucks didn’t buy the chain so they could use the name, Starbucks used the name because they bought the chain. When they bought The Coffee Connection in 1994, BUX didn’t use the Frappuccino name until 1996. The recipe is also different from the one at Coffee Connection
interyx5 points1y ago
Interesting. Thanks for the clarification.
sir_ramen1 points1y ago
As well as Second Cup. A popular Canadian chain.
mmpotpie7846 points1y ago
It used to bother me and then I stopped caring (because 🎶 in the end, it doesn’t really matter 🎶)
olivinemultichrome31 points1y ago
I’d rather call it a Frap than a Frappe
rio8envy728 points1y ago
God yes
eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeee24 points1y ago
I called them fraps up until I was handing a caramel one to a customer and accidentally called it a Crap. She tipped me a 5$ but I’m still embarrassed about it lol
darkwolf5236 points1y ago
Did she laugh at least?
eeeeeeeeeveeeeeeeee7 points1y ago
Yeah, that’s why she tipped me a five lol.
darkwolf5233 points1y ago
Oh ok. Lol
Agreeable_Tea33442 points1y ago
Agreeable_Tea3344 0m I once said a "Carmel crunch wrap" in drive through. It was 4am and the customer laughed hysterically for a min or two. I was embarassed the rest of the day lmao
ugholivia1 points1y ago
I did the same thing the other day lmao

I always correct them. It's annoying
MinuteWolverine107616 points1y ago
Be careful when saying this around your DM’s, my manager/Dm are pretty strict about not saying “frappe” or even “frapp” on DTO
Sassycamo3915 points1y ago
When customers say that one of my shifts say “ ok, let me call McDonald's to place your order.” I was dying inside. He also says to please that ask rudely for a straw “yes, I can get you a straw for your strawless drink and lid.”
darkwolf5234 points1y ago
Your manager sounds cool.
Sassycamo392 points1y ago
My SM sucks but my Shift Lead is amazing.
Teftthebridgeman14 points1y ago
Why does it matter in the least?
mrhammerant11 points1y ago
It doesn't. I realize how petty I am for getting so unreasonably annoyed every time.
miniinovaa8 points1y ago
I am unnecessarily annoyed at very specific non important things 😂
SegoMyLeggo5 points1y ago
Lol for real. Like I think we can muster the speck of patience it takes to just go with it
the_price_is_right9610 points1y ago
You'll notice it bothers you more when your patience is already running thin.

When I first started working, I had a customer order a mocha frap. She got my attention and asked for a mocha frappe. I was confused and asked her if she wanted the mocha cookie instead. Nope. She wanted a mocha frappe, even though she definitely said mocha Frappuccino at the till. I just had to look at her and tell her it was the same thing and hope she didn’t complain that it tasted different.
distraughtcato6 points1y ago
Wait I don’t understand this, is frappe a different kind of drink? I thought they were the same
brokenleftjoycon2 points1y ago
Sbux calls frappes “Frappuccinos”. There might be some small differences between the two but they’re essentially the same thing but the same menu item at two different places can taste different due to slight ingredient differences (I.e. brand of mocha).
The customer in this situation seemed to think that they were two different things and that Sbux had both on the menu.
ryzzostar5 points1y ago
I've had several instances where customers have ordered frappuccinos and expected a bottled drink when I handed them a frozen blended coffee beverage instead...I get the confusion if the only Starbucks drinks you've had were from a bottle and not an actual Starbucks...
Balisong_Witch10 points1y ago
Idk im not a cop
sideofnutmeg9 points1y ago
we were actually told to not call them frappe’s because it’s a trademark thing and we correct customers on it.
getreddittheysaid4 points1y ago
To be clear. Frappe isn't trademarked. Frappuccino is trademarked by Starbucks.
sideofnutmeg3 points1y ago
yes sorry that’s what i meant!
crunchycookie288 points1y ago
I was thinking the same thing today I can’t stand it😩
jerrychiip7 points1y ago
some people call them "frozen coffees" (it's either a dunkin or south jersey thing) and it pisses me off every time
Mcnugget_unlimited3 points1y ago
Well not only that but my customers who said that were novice Starbucks customers (not a bad thing lol) but half the time they meant ice coffee 🤦♀️ so I was always like you want it blended or on ice …
Jew_310 points1y ago
Nothing better than hearing ‘I’d like a white chocolate mocha’ followed up with a blank stare when I ask ‘Hot, iced or Frappuccino?’
PiscesQueen246 points1y ago
The word frappuccino alone sends me up a wall (I hate making them) so any variation of the word irks my nerves
Apprehensive-Cake-91 [OP]3 points1y ago
SAME. Making them fills me with literal rage
SegoMyLeggo6 points1y ago
It doesn’t bother me. I know what they mean and they get what they want, it’s really not a big deal.
Phylomina5 points1y ago
I dunno… it’s almost like being upset when someone calls a bandage a BandAid (tm)… it’s only a Starbucks term. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
DizzyCroutons4 points1y ago
how would I correct someone on this?? one of our new hires calls it a frappe and it bothers me to no end. idk if it’s worth it tho
_abbycadabby_13 points1y ago
I would 100% correct the new hire. As far as customers, "correction" is just done by repeating it back with the correct term, just like drink sizes.
Ex. "Let me get a large iced coffee." "Absolutely! That's a venti iced coffee. What else can we get you?"
And in this case: "I want a white chocolate frappe." "Awesome, a white mocha frappuccino. You got it."
I don't think most customers will change what they say (if they're even paying attention) but it helps to be consistent and it makes things easier for the drive baristas listening for key words on the headset.
the_price_is_right962 points1y ago
I do this too.
lewabwee7 points1y ago
It’s not a frappe so it’s worth correcting in that sense. Whether or not said person will care does impact this though.
rest_aura_nt3 points1y ago
I'm realizing that I say frap bc I hate the word frappuccino like I already have to talk all day long so I subconsciously shorten it. Its the same thing with the tall/grande/venti. If a customer doesn't know the sizes I'll say small medium large idc.
GinaMohundro3 points1y ago
If I hear someone say it I’ll usually remark about ‘McDonald’s is gonna sue someone’ or something along those lines. It definitely bothers me too lol.
Karlkrows2 points1y ago
If I’m already not having a good day it bothers me, but what really bothers me is when I customer corrects me about it
“Can I get a (insert name) frappe?”
“Of course! Will it just be the (insert name) Frappuccino for you today?”
“No I said I wanted a frappe not a Frappuccino!”
I once had someone storm off while I tried to tell them that it was the same drink
Also, I understand it’s not actually the same drink but that is definitely what they are trying to order
the1noir2 points1y ago
I don’t get paid enough to worry about people pronouncing things wrong.
Koalastars0092 points1y ago
I don’t mind. I just say they have those at McDonald’s. But that’s just me trolling the customers for fun

ugholivia1 points1y ago
I get mad when people call the strawberry creme Frappuccino a strawberries and creme Frappuccino. It honestly confused me so bad as a trainee I thought it was a secret menu drink. When I asked if they had the recipe they said no so I made one up for them lmao
Vilali1 points1y ago
I literally hate it. I'd rather them say frap or frappacino.
elote69-4201 points1y ago
When I first started working at Tarbucks I would it call “frappe” and none of my coworkers corrected me. Until I came on this sub and realized there was a difference

What bothers me is that no one who works at Starbucks seems to know that a frappe is a real drink that Starbucks did not invent and simply changed the name of
the_price_is_right963 points1y ago
Or we realize that it is and we also realize that it's traditionally a completely different drink and that's why it bothers us.
lilkiosk0 points1y ago
I like to say frap because it requires the least effort!
Squirrelylove0 points1y ago
Frap annoys me waaaaay more than frappe. Also, *partners* referring to frappuccinos as fraps is the ultimate annoyance in this situation.
I don't care how customers refer to their beverages. As long as we both understand what they're asking for it's not a big deal.
mama_bibi0 points1y ago
I will continue to call it frap because Frappuccino is ridiculous as well as 99% of our drink names. Js
nerdyoats-1 points1y ago
It used to bother me but now i actually find myself doing the same thing when in a hurry. Less syllables!
