I feel REAL appreciated right now (grande rant? Idk anymore)(self.starbucksbaristas)

So my store just recently had there weekly shift meeting and as I was walking out with the two night SSV tonight after our shifts one of them told me that they brought up the fact that our night crew had been struggling. For reference I’m the main closer for most night shifts, we usually have 4 people for a night shift, then one barista will leave at like 6:30-7 and it’ll be the other 3 baristas until close and then a SSV and another barista till 8:30. (Our store closes at 8) 4 may seem like a lot for some people but our store struggles with even 4 people for a night shift since we’re a pretty busy location. We recently have been losing a barista at 5:30 which leaves us 3 baristas for the rest of the shift. Anyway. Our recently new assistant manager practically told them well you’re shit outta luck cause we’re focusing on staffing morning and peak… um. Ok. Thanks for looking out for us night crew people. Like we’re just as important as the morning crew. More so both crews are equally important. Basically we’re on our own cause we all know that nothing will change. It also doesn’t help that I feel like they’re playing favorites with the morning crew.

I would just start giving morning crew more tasks then. I know at a neighboring store, SM refused to schedule accordingly for nights (big DT store right off the busiest exit on the highway) and night crew refused to be taken advantage of so they just did what they most importantly have to do, but stuff like making backups or restocking they started not doing. Yes you have stuff to clean and there are certain things you can’t not do, but if you don’t have enough people to clean at night start leaving a note in the book about what just needs to be done by morning crew now as you aren’t staffed accordingly. Also, I know some DM’s suck, but it doesn’t hurt to reach out to them for help and see where that gets you. If you have written down in the book the issues, the DM isn’t likely to ignore it.
If morning crew gets to clock out on time, then so do you. You are only scheduled for a certain time, anything that takes up more time after that isn’t your concern anymore.

I’m in the same boat you are. My store will have 7-8 person peaks and cut down to 3-4 baristas after 1pm. I’ve stopped making things like back up and stocking because they have plenty of people to do that in the morning. My main focus is cleaning up the mess that gets left for us. I’ve also started to hold the morning ssvs accountable for their floors. I shouldn’t be walking into my shifts with mounds of dishes, dirty bathrooms and no cold brew made.

Our store is having similar issues. We have a TON of morning availability but limited mids and evenings due to a lot of students.
They will beef up peak. But we are planted right by a hospital and shift changes are around 2:30 every day; where some days we have 4, but usually 3 (and still have to run lunches so 2 partner swings)

Yup we still have to run lunches too, no one gets to take there breaks or lunches on time.
