you can actually unscrew the lil spout piece and after a good soak in the soap water all the nasty should come off with a good scrub
MayhemBiker94 [OP]3 points1y ago
Oh it can?! I didn't think it could otherwise I would have done so. Good to know. Thank you!
lesbianbaristacammie2 points1y ago
yea it does take a lil bit of work to get off tho
MayhemBiker94 [OP]2 points1y ago
Good to know. I'm fine with scrubbing them. I just want to make sure they're clean.

Hot water, urnex or Cafiza tablets and elbow grease. Make sure to rinse several times before using them
MayhemBiker94 [OP]-2 points1y ago
Excellent. I didn't even think about urnex! I just used the blue hose water (I think it's just the soap mixture) cuz I wasn't sure what to use.
Night shift just throws them in the Hobart. Don't even rinse them or make sure they're clean since apparently the Hobart does everything 🥴 (reason why I usually don't like drinking any teas or refreshers unless I know someone else washed them recently... is that horrible to say?)

Starbucks updated our dishwashing standards so that as long as there’s not any 3D debris we’re supposed to put them straight in the Hobart. Washing, rinsing, and sanitizing is no longer required before putting it in the hobart. These look pretty clean, they’re just stained. You can put in the work to get them off if you want but I wouldn’t say that these are dirty.
MayhemBiker94 [OP]1 points1y ago
... you can't quite see it in the picture but there was still tea that was able to be swirled around on the inside. To me that's dirty. I wouldn't want to drink tea from it anyway.
_lips_like_sugar_8 points1y ago
Yes bc opening is sure known for cleaning anything, including throwing their damn drinks away before they leave. Yall leave the store a disgusting disaster when you clock off.

Not my store LoL
Openers at my store clean the absolute fuck out of everything and try to leave the store better than when we came in.
I'll admit that some stores are different. Some stores have busy openings... others have busy closes. At my store - it's opening that is slammed. Closers, i.e. from 7p-10p, maybe get 40 customers total. Whereas opening gets 40 within the first hour. Regardless, there's no excuse for leaving the store a wreck, no matter if you're a closer or an opener.

I think it’s beneficial to have a more understanding mindset. You’re all one team 👍

Mixture of urnex, hot water, and dawn. (I sneak dawn in)
MayhemBiker94 [OP]2 points1y ago
Awesome! Thank you! 🙂
Skeleknight2 points1y ago
This, and also do it with magic eraser, Starbucks provides one upon order if you guys don't have one yet.
MayhemBiker94 [OP]2 points1y ago
Oooooo I'll have to pester one of the shifts into ordering one. Good to know!
asinglecroutin2 points1y ago
Urnex and boiling hot water. Let it sit for 15 minutes at least and it comes off very easily

Restroom cleaners
[deleted]2 points1y ago
Cafiza also you can take everything apart and soak it in a sink full, do it on your clean play tho for that one.
Cauliflower292 points1y ago
Beauty’s🥺 I’m at a ghetto target. Our store is so outdated compared to the updated ones lol
MayhemBiker94 [OP]2 points1y ago
Rip 🙏
P_2_P2 points1y ago
RESTROOM CLEANER!!! Let it soak and it literally just rinses off.
MayhemBiker94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Excellent. I wasn't sure if the restroom cleaner would damage them or not and the other openers weren't sure if covering them in it would be a good idea.
P_2_P2 points1y ago
It used to be called Spirit and would come out in a white paste
MayhemBiker94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Good to know!
sorrysmithy1 points1y ago
make sure you fully rewash them with the 3 sink method after rinsing off the restroom cleaner though because it is literal bleach lol. but it works really well my store does this for tea pitchers in rough shape :)
MayhemBiker94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Nice! Yeah we've done the restroom cleaner followed by 3 sink method AND Hobart with the rags. Unfortunately a lot of my store's baristas seem to think clean rags are plentiful and neverending so typically by the last day before we get in Cintas we don't have any clean ones so we have to wash them by hand. 🥴 I'm about ready to hide 3 or 4 clean ones for that last day.
kobo152 points1y ago
Cafiza tablets are your best friend.
I take a dish tub every clean play, sprinkle some cafiza tablets in there (we’re currently real lucky because we just got the new bars so we have lots of old tabs we can use sitting around) and fill it with hot water and dishes I want to scrub. Let it soak for maybe an hour, and the stains come off so easy!! You can do the same thing in the tea pitchers too
MayhemBiker94 [OP]1 points1y ago
Our store is super new so we never had the old bars... I wonder though if maybe we accidentally got some. I'll have to look around and see if maybe we have any... 🤔
kobo152 points1y ago
The new ones work too!! As long as you have enough in store use the extras for cleaning!! It’s a miracle worker
MayhemBiker94 [OP]2 points1y ago
Excellent. LoL I'll have to ask a shift if we have enough to use it to clean them.
ayrihanae1 points1y ago
Ask the shift to “accidentally” order the wrong ones…
MayhemBiker94 [OP]-4 points1y ago
So this is how night shift routinely leaves the tea pitchers (gross - I know). As an opener I ended up scrubbing these for about 10 minutes and also shoved them in the Hobart. Any suggestions on how to get them more clean?
(And night shift pretty much refuses to clean anything or do backups for us so it's all on morning crew - like I get it, there's only 3 of them but they get maybe 40 customers from 7p-10p when we close whereas we get 40 in the first hour of opening).
_lips_like_sugar_7 points1y ago
Obviously they are just stains if you cant get rhem off either. Stfu with the night crew vs opening god.
MayhemBiker94 [OP]-5 points1y ago
... so I didn't take pictures of them after I cleaned them but if you look at the second photo you'll see there's still liquid tea at the bottom? As in I could swirl the leftover tea around the bottom of the pitcher. They're not just stains.
Also, I have no issues with night crew as a whole. Yes I'm usually an opener but I've also closed on the weekends before. I get it. It's difficult.
However, let's go through the list of what today's open found us with (without a note or message warning us, which is what we as openers would have appreciated):
- no backups of anything - the mobile bar not clean (opening does the drive bar so each shift focuses on a bar to make closing easier) - cold brew kegs (we had 1 that was left) - whip cream left on the counter overnight - Cafe floors and bathrooms undone, we were out of toilet paper completely in one bathroom - precisely 4 bacon goudas (we had several frozen that should have been an emergency pull with a note saying to check them) - no rags, we had to go and rinse dirty ones with restroom cleaner and use the Hobart to be able to even have rags
So don't tell me to stfu about my store's closing shift. They had maybe 40 customers over a period of 3 hours... while yes they only have 3 people... most of those customers ordered maybe 1-2 drinks each. They have time to do these things... they just don't want to.

I got the solution to your problem. There is a magical packet called k5, kinda like urnex except that it is meant to clean plastics and metals that aren’t for brewing and it sanitizes them so you don’t have to rinse the crap out of them like with urnex. Idk why people would use that on tea pitchers that’s kinda ridiculous. You can use restroom cleaner on metal so the tops and bottoms can get sprayed but keep it away from plastic as it can be corrosive.
