Tired of customers giving me just the name of a "secret menu" drink and expecting me to know it.(self.starbucksbaristas)

No recipe given, nothing aside from the name. Sometimes it's impossible to make the moment right :/

Just have a ready answer, “That is not on our menu but if you can tell me what is in it we will make it for you.” Sometimes they have a list/instructions. Lately you can bet it will have syrups that you haven’t had in months. I suggest an alternative syrup and they usually go for it. In the end they get a big sweet cup of something and they are happy.

Today I felt so bad for someone because he was going down a list of secret menu drinks he wanted and literally every single one had something that we were out of :/

This just happened to me today! I was taking a man’s order and I don’t think he knew much English, but he was on the phone with a woman. He literally just showed me a screenshot of a TikTok that said “Caramel Cookie Crumble Frappuccino” and I’m like, “Okay, this is a TikTok drink so I need to know exactly what is in it.” They didn’t understand and ended up ordering a Strawberry Frapp instead. I’m also pretty new so maybe caramel cookie crumble is common sense but I didn’t wanna ring it up wrong and risk making them angry.

omg I'm not even joking it was the same exact drink for me. The lady kept repeating caramel cookie frappuccino and I kept asking if she meant caramel ribbon crunch or mocha cookie crumble, and finally she was like "Well I saw it on the internet, I don't know!".

"I'll have a redeye. What, you don't know what that is?" *explains it slowly like I'm an idiot for not knowing*

a, uh.. a red-eye isn't a secret menu thing. it's a coffee term you don't know, but it's a coffee term.

Sure, but I'm not wrong for not knowing a super uncommon term.

Red eyes and Black eyes are actually really common. They get ordered a lot at our store.

I've only ever been asked by one person, my supervisor hadn't heard of it either. It could be a US/UK discrepancy? Point still stands though, acting like the barista is stupid for not knowing your weird random drink pick-n-mix is just rude behaviour

Yeah man… no offense but these tiktok orders are slowly becoming the bane of my existence as a partner… particularly as one who does a lot of register 🙃
