how to ask for a transfer? (or should i even try) (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by idkwhyihavethis777
ok so basically, i’m a new-ish partner (320xxxxx) who’s been working since june, so i’m very close to the three month window for being able to transfer (or at least that’s what i was told what the window was by a manager.) ive been wanting to ask for a transfer for a while, as i work in a mall and it’s EXTREMELY stressful and my mental health isn’t doing well with coping with it always being extremely busy. (for reference, this mall is the biggest one in the area and i live in a big city. i tell other store’s baristas where i’m from when i visit, and they say they could never handle how busy it is.) in addition, it’s a solid 20 minutes away from my house and school (i’m a junior in high school) and that’s when there’s no traffic. i also feel like most of my coworkers don’t like me.
however, i would feel super bad deserting this team because i know how hard it’s been with so many stores being understaffed. not only this but i always feel like i’m not as good as my other colleagues who joined at the same time as i did, and i don’t want to be bad from the get-go if i transfer. is transferring something i should even consider? or am i just being selfish?

The guide has information about transfers. Baristas need to give a 60 day notice and it has to be approved., at least that’s what it says. You also have to complete the basics before being considered. I was told 90 days of employment is required way back in 2014, but I didn’t see anything about it.

If you are willing commutate with your GM first, about you’re health. You are never selfish for taking care of yourself and your needs. It’s retail, it’s expected for people to come and go, they’ll work it out.
