First step is knowing why you want to be a lead. Do you know? Can you articulate it? From there, talk to your SM, and ask questions. What are they looking for in a lead? We used to write progress plans for promotions, dunno if that’s still a thing.
Know that there’s risk of managers using your desire to be promoted to get you to worker harder even if they have no intention of promoting you. Be watchful of that and know when to cut your losses. You’ll have to learn a little bit of the politics of working for the siren, but that comes with being a lead anyway.
Good luck!

I’d say definitely be committed to learning policies and upholding standards and just let your SM know that you’re interested and ask what you would need to improve on to be considered for the next opening.

Always be willing to learn. If you see someone doing something you don’t know how to do ask them if they can show you. Knowledge is power, and all the more power to get that promotion.

At my store all you have to do is worship the manager and kiss his ass

Hi! I just started as a barista about 4 months ago and have a shift interview this week. My advice would be to try to continuously learn from everyone around you, do your best to follow standards, and show interest in becoming a barista trainer. I also had a conversation with our SM about a potential future with the company to let him know that I was serious and interested. Hope this helps!
