People not having an ID while driving, with an order like that… I never feel bad about it.
shikiP 71 points 1y ago
Oh he probably has an ID while driving. It just wasn't the ID tied to the partner number probably.

People do so much shit thanks to the tiktok hack. Probably been using their id ever since.
Indiancheif 11 points 1y ago
wait what tiktok hack?
JanniferCrocs 29 points 1y ago
people trying to use random partner numbers for the discount
freelancefikr 9 points 1y ago
that’s why i just ask the name to confirm it, instead of the other way around
particularBillarina 196 points 1y ago
No ID…sure buddy lol
BrotatoChip04 81 points 1y ago
Wait are we supposed to ask for/show an ID when it comes to partners ordering? I didn’t know we were supposed to ask, and I’ve never been asked for my ID when using my numbers.
midgethepuff 129 points 1y ago
Technically yes. I almost never do, but most partners in my experience aren’t out here making $60+ orders. In this instance I would likely either ask for a form of ID or at least ask probing questions like “oh what location do you work at?” To verify.
lily-amber 24 points 1y ago
Yeah no kidding. I would never do that to my coworkers. Also I know most of the baristas in my district so I don’t ID unless I don’t recognize them.
midgethepuff 18 points 1y ago
I usually don’t recognize a lot of partners except for the few that live around my store (but work at another), but I still don’t ask unless they’re acting sus. I feel like you can tell when someone is a partner lol
lily-amber 23 points 1y ago
True. We have a “dead inside” look.
medicinexx 15 points 1y ago
Hi! as a trans partner, please ask for any verification not specifically id! forms of proof can be the partner card on the app, knowing the full name connected to the partner numbers (or even how to spell it!), a physical partner card, or even how to make a specific drink! i have been fucking hassled ever since the stupid tiktok bullshit and i have to tell random people i’m trans! not fun!!! :)
OneRoseDark 12 points 1y ago
trans partner also. the only acceptable forms of ID are a photo ID of any kind or a partner card. Knowing how to make a drink or the full name of the partner is not acceptable ID.
midgethepuff 6 points 1y ago
I am aware of this and have had several trans coworkers. I personally have also never “ID’d” anyone either, I don’t care that much tbh lol
medicinexx 3 points 1y ago
i accidentally replied to the wrong comment on this thread, but thank you for being aware 😊
OneRoseDark 1 points 1y ago

heyzeusmaryandjoseph 15 points 1y ago
One time someone came into my cafe and said they had a "discount code". "a what?" and they gave me partner numbers. Uh... No
victorious_gem 54 points 1y ago
yeah, during peak pandemic people on tiktok found out that whoever was assigned to a reg. their numbers use to be at the top of the receipt && a lot of people got in trouble for shit that wasn't there fault. so they had said, if someone from a different store comes to order, you were supposed to check id to see if it matches with the name that came up on reg
badatlife15 25 points 1y ago
They did fix that, but it’s possible there are people still out there with old numbers.
victorious_gem 14 points 1y ago
yeah exactly && I also tend to ask I the person ordering didn't make any sense..like you can tell they're probably not a partner.
coffeesparklez 18 points 1y ago
Actually no, we don't ask for ID unless they don't have their partner card (the one you load to your app from partner hub, has a photo of green apron.) This is to protect our trans partners and others who are using preferred names that may not appear on government IDs.)
darkwolf523 6 points 1y ago
You’re suppose to since they said people can just look at the receipt for the partner that rang them up. I think they changed it but just in case. But I’m at that point if I recognize the partner, I don’t check id for them
its_Lydia_ 3 points 1y ago
Only if they don’t have their partner card or if they have their numbers on their app.
jamesbeast215 2 points 1y ago
I never asked for an ID, fuck that.
Astraterris -2 points 1y ago
I was told it’s actually not legal for us to check ID but I haven’t followed up on that. I never get anyone asking for it though.
whowatchesthew 44 points 1y ago
Dear, everyone… when people (tiktokers) were stealing partner numbers because they were available on receipts, etc, it became known. My store specifically said any for purchase we need Parter ID, but the store across the way in the same city doesn’t do it. At my store we would get into huge trouble if we didn’t ask for ID, or if they were working today, using discount or mark out, etc. Every store is different.
TheOnesLeftBehind 23 points 1y ago
It was in the weekly update last year to ask for all numbers. It’s suppose to be company wide
ryjectionissues 19 points 1y ago
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure through the card on the app or the partner card itself is also an acceptable form of ID.
TheOnesLeftBehind 2 points 1y ago
Yeah I’ve got that set up myself. It’s easier for us all with masks and machines and plexis
martinifather 17 points 1y ago
some of these comments are killing me pls pls pls always ask for ID🙏🙏

martinifather 28 points 1y ago
if someone’s partner numbers are stolen the original partner could lose their job. it’s not about protecting the company they can choke it’s the partners
yyz_barista 0 points 1y ago
I doubt you'd be able to seperate on that basis. Security camera footage would show it's a completely different person at the other location. And because partner numbers are on receipts, there's real proof that it's the fault of the partner (or that they violated any policies)..
star_pants 7 points 1y ago
It was removed from receipts (except for I think the last few), and the security film is looped since it's mostly just there for cases like robbery where the cops come right after. So say your manager checks the report that has markout %s of partners when it's available at the beginning of the next week it's unlikely that they're going to take the time to try to pull it if it's even still available.

Just as a heads up.

That’s how those benefits can be taken away, though, because people abuse them.
thechrismonster 0 points 1y ago
Well from the looks of it they're having a hard time retaining partners and most partners are already on edge... try taking partner discount away as punishment for not carding and see how that goes for them.

I don't like non-partners abusing discounts either but im not in any task force to investigate and prevent it from happening, nor given incentive to. Trust that corpo isn't hurting over it either. They're selling two inches of aired milk for a full $1.
BroccoliKitchen5216 3 points 1y ago
Ah yes we love $1 sugar air milk

Btw what do y'all do if the partner is trans and their ID looks nothing like them, has the gender on it that they don't look like, and has their deadname? I've been refused my discount multiple times because my ID "doesn't match" my appearance and partner numbers and I've explained I'm trans but they don't care. I just don't go to other stores now. I think there should a some kind of training in place for what to do when this happens because it's infuriating.
star_pants 10 points 1y ago
Partners receive partner cards (you may need to order it now, it's a green card that has an apron on the front) and that one should have your proper name and no ID photo so to avoid that problem.

If you need to order it then you can go to My Partner Info and order the card (when I did there was no charge, I can't imagine that there is now but if might take a couple of weeks to get).

Additionally, if you go online and log into the Starbucks website (as a customer if you have the app) then you can input your partner number so you can scan the app to get the discount instead.
_dreamsofthedead_ 2 points 1y ago
Thanks! I'll look into that after my shift today.
star_pants 2 points 1y ago
Happy to help!
medicinexx 1 points 1y ago
hi! this isn’t correct actually! i have a physical partner card and it has my dead name on it, even thought i have my preferred name in the system. confusing, right? i agree!
star_pants 1 points 1y ago
There must be an error in the system with that somewhere then, or possibly your manager has something input wrong! There's another person who has responded saying that they got their partner card, and the trans partners I've worked with haven't had this issue! I'm sorry it happened to you and I hope it gets sorted! Maybe ask your manager to check on it?

Also, did you receive it when you started or have to order it?
medicinexx 0 points 1y ago
my manager has my name in the system fine. i ordered this partner card via MyPartnerInfo.
peachcore 1 points 1y ago
replying to say i was in the same boat, and ordered myself a partner card (was free, probably waited a week for it, no longer than 2 weeks). since obtaining it, they no longer ask me to show id and i don't have to go through the dysphoria of looking at my id/deadname or being ridiculed because it isn't the same as my partner name.

definitely recommend just nabbing that physical copy of your partner card and then adding it to your mobile app just incase (through the computer in the backroom, still havent added mine to my app so im not sure how, sorry!)
aka_Marie 4 points 1y ago
this. i agree that it’s a shitty policy, and needs to be worked on,
RedRowBlueBoat 3 points 1y ago
Trans partner here as well. You can load your discount onto the app, or you can carry your physical partner card with you. If you apply the discount by scanning your app, they aren’t supposed to ID.
Malevolent_barnacle 3 points 1y ago
If you have your partner card, no one should be bugging for ID. Also, if this a recurring problem feel free to reach out to your DM, and let them know how this is affecting your partner experience. We're supposed to make a welcoming environment *for everyone* that includes the partners. Also, you may have a local partner network to connect with that can help too!
brokenleftjoycon 10 points 1y ago
I had a woman come in the other day and wanted to use partner numbers. She asked if we could look them up for her and I assumed she was a new hire and that’s why she didn’t remember them. When she finally found them, it was like a 290xxxx number. Girl… I don’t know whose numbers you were trying to use but they don’t work here anymore (discount failed) and they definitely would have them memorized if they still did and they definitely wouldn’t have to ask me what the employee discount is.
BaristaWoosa 10 points 1y ago
Standard is ask for ID if they just shoot you the numbers. If they have a physical partner card or their numbers on the app an ID is not necessary. Also, when using their partner numbers, partners are supposed to be the ones paying for the order.
Ex: mom and partner daughter come in. Partner gives numbers and mom goes to pay. This is against policy as it’s the daughters discount, not moms.
My district has had a lot of partner number abuse so we’ve had to crack down hard on making sure all partners are following policy regarding their discounts and mark outs.

Js_On_My_Yeet 7 points 1y ago
As a 187**** that was trained by a 175****, I was told to only ask for ID if their order is more than $20. But honestly maybe they changed policy? Idk. It's always been that way for me since I started.
ObitoUchiha41 13 points 1y ago
I’ve heard technically supposed to ask every time, but usually we only do if it’s not a regular and they call something the wrong name lmao
cpv_91 6 points 1y ago
I'm sorry.. I'm reading most of these comments and I just need to put this out there. It has always been a requirement to ask for ID be it your partner card or a government issued ID. Our discount is a benefit not a right and we are expected to provide proof of the eligibility to that benefit. This has always been the rule not just since the partner number showing on our receipt incident of last year. We ALL work pretty damn hard and put up with a whole hell of alot for our benefits and I personally don't feel others should be reaping the rewards from our hard labor. Do you??

Caveat: if you know the partner, obviously you aren't going to card them.
anitasdoodles 6 points 1y ago
Since when do we ask for IDs? Lol I’ve never been asked and have never asked oops
TheOnesLeftBehind 12 points 1y ago
It was in the weekly update some time last year
darkwolf523 6 points 1y ago
Last year when tik tok found a way to find there partner’s numbers when ringing them up. They changed it now
NervosaNervous 8 points 1y ago
I straight up had someone try to use numbers and the register wouldn’t let me because it was assigned to that partner’s till. I looked at them and back at the computer and asked for their name. When they said it, I said, “Funny. You don’t look like (partner’s name).” They got embarrassed and drove off. Never saw them again.
darkwolf523 1 points 1y ago
Lol
anitasdoodles 4 points 1y ago
Seriously?! That’s so shitty.
darkwolf523 3 points 1y ago
It is what it is. Blame the tik tokera last year
heyzeusmaryandjoseph 3 points 1y ago
It's been in the Partner Resource Manual for years now, but no one ever held anyone to it. The TikTok thing just emphasized the rule
mcr0414 5 points 1y ago
We are not suppose to ask for ID’s to support the partners who in the process of transitioning I thought. The beauty bout starbucks is we have the opportunity to choose our name which is what will pull up when you put your partner numbers in. The process of changing it on a license can take awhile sometimes. This is what I was told in three different districts that I have worked since this began.
throwaway2825272 5 points 1y ago
I’ve started asking for ID if i personally don’t know you . or if they have their partner card , no need to ask :)
wendywendy5 4 points 1y ago
I don’t feel bad at all either when they don’t have there I.d
[deleted] 3 points 1y ago
I ordered my partner ID the month I was hired and never received it.
cancel94 3 points 1y ago
The second a partner orders anything that requires a blender, I give them a look...
TeaShaker 2 points 1y ago
Okay but sometimes you just want one. Are you going to stand their and lie to me and say you’ve never craved blended milky sugary goodness? Even as a bitter food service worker?
cancel94 0 points 1y ago
I don't like fraps, the base taste weird and I'm not a fan of sugary drinks. If you want one fine, but I would prefer if a partner made it themselves.
aka_Marie 3 points 1y ago
you shouldn’t ask for ID anyway…does nobody think of trans partners? you can ask for partner cards, ID is last resort. I would even take someone showing me the schedule app or telling me something only we would know, yk?
OneRoseDark 2 points 1y ago
I'm a trans partner. I use my partner card so I don't have to show my ID because that's the policy. I would never expect someone else to break a policy to protect me from a non-issue.

It takes 30 seconds to set up a mobile partner card. If trans partners want to save themselves the ID hassle, we have the power to do that.
RedRowBlueBoat 1 points 1y ago
Trans partner here. You don’t ask for ID if they scan their app for the discount, or if they show you their partner card. You only ID if they recite their numbers.
aka_Marie 1 points 1y ago
and what do you do when they photo and name don’t match?
RedRowBlueBoat 3 points 1y ago
I use my mobile app to scan my partner card, which they are not to ask for a photo ID for.
aka_Marie -1 points 1y ago
no but like what if they don’t have that? that’s my point, not everyone has a physical or digital partner card, and if the ID doesn’t match then what do you do?
ObnoxiousR 3 points 1y ago
We get coffee mark outs for a reason. Make your dumb ass coffee at home. I swear some partners are wack af.
TeaShaker 2 points 1y ago
Come after me but it is ridiculous to card every barista and get anal about who is paying. Even if you chew me out? What’s to stop me from getting my friends to zelle me money lol.

I don’t get paid enough to act like this is alcohol or cigarettes. Sometimes a barista just needs to inject sugar and caffeine directly into their veins. And use the WiFi.

Also, yeah, I don’t have my id because I’m forgetful. Fight me about it. I’m still going to be forgetful! It’s probably good I just go to my store.
DaWitcherr 2 points 1y ago
A real (non douchebag) partner would know to come inside and tell em to take their time :-)
Final-Course9830 2 points 1y ago
Y’all ID at your Starbucks…?
King-GoergeIII 1 points 1y ago
I only ask for ID if they don't order order drink correctly, they are being rude to me, name is wierd or of they just don't look like a partner or too old. Other than that I only ask for the name
boralblue 1 points 1y ago
i didn’t get paid enough to care if they were a partner or not. never once asked for an ID, i’m not a bouncer at bar. i’d ask their name, if it was the same name that popped up on the screen.. good enough for me.
Vosstonmass1 1 points 1y ago
In this case, if it was not a partner that worked at my store the I wouldn’t even allow a purchase like that. Technically the partner discount is for the partner but I would absolutely allow a partner to buy some stuff for their family that’s with them but not $70 worth of stuff for their group of friends. You did the right thing.
Koalastars009 1 points 1y ago

ID?? dude all youre supposed to ask for is their name- MAYBE which store they work at if you feel like being extra petty. kind of a dick move on your part

edit: i dont understand assuming the worst in people, and for everyone saying "its policy", our manager and even one of our corporate reps stated during a visit not to ask for ID to respect trans partners. none of the partners in our district have been sent partner cards, so that's not an option. i still think asking for ID just because a partners order is an inconvenience isnt admirable
dstnygn 45 points 1y ago
you are supposed to ask for ID.
devinboyd98 -32 points 1y ago
You’re actually not but everyone asks anyway
midgethepuff 25 points 1y ago
You actually *are* but most people don’t.
darkwolf523 7 points 1y ago
Incorrect. It was written last year that partners are suppose to ask for ID
dstnygn 6 points 1y ago
where does it say this? most people seem to agree with me, but im sure the true standard is somewhere.
devinboyd98 -20 points 1y ago
I remember reading it when I started but despite several hours trying to find anything about it in the handbook I couldn’t. I asked my sm about it and she said that technically were not supposed to ask for ID but that’s just the way it’s always been done.
devinboyd98 -15 points 1y ago
Ive only had one store actually ask for id and I have no problem showing it to them if they ask. I just usually don’t ask to see one because honestly who cares unless they’re being a total pain in the ass
Babeygoo 29 points 1y ago
If i was OP i would’ve asked for an ID too. We ask for IDs all the time. Do not think this was a “dick move”
medusas-garden 26 points 1y ago
You’re supposed to either ask for an ID or their partner card whether it’s a physical one or on their app.
OneRoseDark 21 points 1y ago
ID or partner card. That is policy.
E-Aphrodite [OP] 12 points 1y ago
When I was trained by a 187- you’re suppose to ask for ID, even the managers get carded
Pickle-Chunk 9 points 1y ago
I mean it’s policy soooooo
bryceofswadia 9 points 1y ago
I don’t normally ask for ID, but with $25-30+ orders it’s better to air on the side of caution.
darkwolf523 5 points 1y ago
You’re suppose to. Was in the weekly update last year
thechrismonster 1 points 1y ago
getting downvoted by the starbucks coin securement squad lmaoo
shikiP 4 points 1y ago
i dont think people care about starbucks losing money. They care that the dude in the pic is likely an asshole customer who stole a partners number from the tiktok trend last year and wanted a discount.

Which means people like him couldve fucked over actual partners.
thechrismonster 1 points 1y ago
I get that on for this type of order, I guess. I'm referring to the ID EVERY PARTNER weirdos. I'm not turning away some rando getting a shakened espresso and a pastry because theyre sneakily saving $3 off their 9 order .
shikiP 3 points 1y ago
Doesnt matter how much that random customer orders. Imagine if the partner number they stole was working and the system detects that number was used at a store miles away. Starbucks would accuse them of sharing that number and potentially displicine them.

I don't care if starbucks loses money. But if it could hurt another barista then I do care and will side with fellow baristas over customers.
soffybuttons 0 points 1y ago
i just dont understand assuming the worst in people :( plenty of real partners order a lot, we get a good discount. that tiktok trend was a WHILE ago, and corporate took partner numbers off receipts real quick when they found out. i just think its rude to assume people are faking being a partner just because they order a lot and its an inconvenience. i get i got downvoted because i said it was a "dick move" but i just think its petty
E-Aphrodite [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Petty? Every Starbucks I go to, I get ID. Even in different cities, I live in California. My orders are usually one food and one drink, I don’t complain, I show them my ID :)
shikiP 2 points 1y ago
Who drives without an ID..? I feel like most people know better than to drive without an ID. Feel like its more likely he wanted to use someones number and had his ID but knew it wouldnt match up.

In the case theyre trans there is a workaround.
