Tips for reporting a manager? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by deathnapsnicecream
So I’ve been at Starbucks for about 2 1/2 months now and joined right in the middle of transitioning to a new manager. The old one moved across town to manage a different store. The new one was hired from outside the company.

Here’s where my issue lies:
She has no barista experience and while I’ve learned how to make every drink there and do every task in my short amount of time here, she has put in little effort to learn anything besides the bare minimum customer support (restocking) and a few hot bar drinks. She has been there for a few months longer than I have and somehow still hasn’t gotten used to how long things take to be made, especially heated up food items. She doesn’t get how three or four people for a peak that only runs smoothly with a minimum of six is bad.

While that’s all annoying, it’s not the worst thing about her being on the floor. When it’s her time to come on the floor for peak, she insists on being at the window. The other day, the shift put her on oven because she at least knows how to do that, but she said “No. I don’t want to. I’m going to the back.” Our shift had to follow her and plead with her to come back because we only had four people for peak besides her. She came and did the window and acted all proud of herself for getting her way.
Another issue is that fact that she comes and goes as she pleases. Without telling anyone. So she misses meetings and interviews and we have to tell partners and interviewees that we don’t know where she is or when she’s coming back.

The other day during peak, she was put on oven and randomly left her position an hour before peak was over. She told no one and we were left wondering where our food was. When she came back, she started restocking things like she was on CS and not oven, so I asked what she was doing. I told her she needed to communicate that she had left oven because she was ruining our drive times by leaving us. She snapped at me and said that it was the shift lead’s responsibility to tell everyone she had left. I said she still needed to tell drivethru so that we were prepared. She said: “I told the shift. I don’t have to tell you anything. Do you *understand* that?” She then turned and said she was leaving for a different store and never came back meaning she missed a meeting with a partner she had scheduled the day prior.

Needless to say, she has been the cause of one too many tears for me and my coworkers. We’re at a loss. We’re SUPER under staffed and some of us are so tired of her that we’re ready to just leave. I love working at Starbucks so far but she makes it miserable. Sorry for such a long post. Any advice on where to go from here?
*I have no idea how to contact my DM btw.

Ask a shift it anyone else at your store how to contact your dm. That would be the first step. Get a feel for how your fellow partners feel about her and once someone figures out how to contact you dm, do so en mass. That's unacceptable behavior for any job. If literally no one in your store knows how to contact your dm, call partner resources.
These are of the top of my head, and I've never had to deal with anything like this at Starbucks, so there might be a better option out there.
Good luck, my friend.

I have the same issue. I just emailed my DM yesterday. We have an external hire that only schedules themself Monday- Friday meanwhile we struggle on the weekends. This person doesn’t know the recipes to drinks, doesn’t know how to set up plays, cannot ring on the register amongst a number of other things. They leave almost all the staffing issues to the shifts if there is coverage needed. I few partners at my store made efforts along with my email so hopefully this gets resolved quickly. The contact information for your DM should be posted by the schedules. There should be a business card. You can also call pcc to get their info.
