Got promoted to customer today ✌️ (self.starbucksbaristas)

Shout out to my SM, who absolutely didn't know that I was being severed effective immediately by the DM and scheduled me 35 hours each for the next 2 weeks! You're a real one, good luck with that coverage.

Boss: “where are you??? You’re supposed to work today?”

“Lol I’m fired.”

"Well you certainly are with that attitude!"

Congratulations! I hear customer is a really coveted position at Starbucks.

Severed? Sounds violent. DM is not at all that involved in my store. Sorry that happened, sounds like a terrible environment
francescugh 23 points 1y ago
by your DM? geez im sorry?! did your SM have any say? it seems they relied on you heavy!

My SM was very clearly unhappy, but she's still green enough that she follows his lead 🤷 He'd been looking to get rid of me for years because my prioritization of baristas over profit rocked the boat a little too much. Got me on a technicality 🙄
shimmyeatworldpeace 10 points 1y ago
Can I ask what the technicality was?!

Apparently there's a rule that only SSVs can handle tips, including to sort the change into pennies, nickels, etc, even before they're divvied up, which was something I'd never heard of or seen enforced in my 2 years at the store. DM happened to come visit after I had asked one of the baristas to help me sort change in our downtime. He cited it as mishandling money on my form 💁

I'm not a SSV and my manager has me count tips and divvy them up most weeks, so this makes me super nervous.
mgoodwin1631 12 points 1y ago
I mean I don’t know where you live, but I’m in Southern California and a SSV and we never sort tips, it’s almost exclusively baristas that do that out here.

Edit: spelled tips wrong
TemplarSensei7 3 points 1y ago
That’s….. dumb….? When I was promoted, I never did tips ever again, and frankly, I missed those times cause it was mildly relaxing.
shimmyeatworldpeace 3 points 1y ago
That’s just him nickel and diming you.

Anyways, sorry for the poor taste in my joke. I hope you find somewhere better. Starbs didn’t deserve you or your time. This will be a positive change! ❤️✨

I’m in the Seattle area, 8 year partner, manager is a 6 digit partner. Baristas do tips. Supervisors need to run the floor not be sitting in the back for god knows how long sorting coins.

Sorry that you have a toxic DM. If I were you, I’d call PRSC on them. It is not against policy for baristas to handle tip money. It’s technically not even the company’s money and SMs aren’t even allowed to touch it.
The only thing I can see being a technical break of policy is exchanging coins with bills from a till, but even then it’s a super big grey area. It could get you in trouble by miscounting and making the till have a variance, but that is easily countered by a Till Audit from the shift.
During the country’s change shortage, I would have baristas count coins from tips and exchange them into the till. After, I did a Till Audit to ensure the money was accurate.

A barista does our tips every week and she isn’t a SSV. Is that really a rule? We could all get caught in technicalities. I’ve been there for about 2 months and I’ve realized we let things slide and do things to make things work on a daily basis

Northern Nevada stores here have baristas that do the tips. I’m so confused by this
Eandavis 1 points 1y ago
I absolutely LOVE your outlook on this! Promoted to customer, I promoted myself to customer last December.

At our store only baristas did tips. No one has ever said anything..
