I'm not a SSV and my manager has me count tips and divvy them up most weeks, so this makes me super nervous.

I mean I don’t know where you live, but I’m in Southern California and a SSV and we never sort tips, it’s almost exclusively baristas that do that out here.
Edit: spelled tips wrong

That’s….. dumb….? When I was promoted, I never did tips ever again, and frankly, I missed those times cause it was mildly relaxing.

That’s just him nickel and diming you.
Anyways, sorry for the poor taste in my joke. I hope you find somewhere better. Starbs didn’t deserve you or your time. This will be a positive change! ❤️✨

I’m in the Seattle area, 8 year partner, manager is a 6 digit partner. Baristas do tips. Supervisors need to run the floor not be sitting in the back for god knows how long sorting coins.

Sorry that you have a toxic DM. If I were you, I’d call PRSC on them. It is not against policy for baristas to handle tip money. It’s technically not even the company’s money and SMs aren’t even allowed to touch it.
The only thing I can see being a technical break of policy is exchanging coins with bills from a till, but even then it’s a super big grey area. It could get you in trouble by miscounting and making the till have a variance, but that is easily countered by a Till Audit from the shift.
During the country’s change shortage, I would have baristas count coins from tips and exchange them into the till. After, I did a Till Audit to ensure the money was accurate.
