Edited punches (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MahNellie
What do I do if my manager keeps having us stay 10-15 minutes past our shift everyday but editing it to say we left on time? I talk to her multiple times about this and it still keeps happening.
mekhrice 264 points 1y ago
report her to DM or higher like ethics and compliance, or you can file a complaint with the labor bureau.
noeyoureatowel 89 points 1y ago
All of the above is the correct answer here, actually.
StarbzBoi 123 points 1y ago
Say goodbye to your manager and call ethics and compliance
MahNellie [OP] 30 points 1y ago
What do you mean goodbye?
RareLingonberry 142 points 1y ago
She’s gonna be fired when you report her. Because what she’s doing is illegal and the company will owe you compensation as a result.
potatopoisoning 118 points 1y ago
Absolutely. It’s called “wage theft”. Document every instance you can. Also, if you log in to “Partner Hours” in Partner Hub, you can see all the edits that have been made to your punches. Go through the list and there is an option to “accept” or “contest”. Contest any punches that were edited incorrectly.

Also a good idea to talk to the state labor board! The more people looking into this horrible behavior can help so many fellow baristas!
i_am_me47 112 points 1y ago
yeah that’s not only against starbucks policy but incredibly illegal and breaks just about every labor law out there.

Ha! Riiiiiight

I’ve heard of managers getting fired for this and much less, document it well, say...take a video of you clocking out with the punch clearly on the screen and then find evidence of the edited punch. A text from your manager asking you to stay late would also be a good nail in the coffin. Fuck this behavior. Know your worth.
MahNellie [OP] 24 points 1y ago
Thanks I’m gonna do the going forward!
bryceofswadia 17 points 1y ago
This is illegal. The manager could have worse than being fired happen to them.
martinifather 21 points 1y ago
this is time fraud report to your DM immediately
poopsh0t 31 points 1y ago
The dms probably low key telling them to doit. I’d go straight to ethics
ladytaters 6 points 1y ago
I've told the story here before, but this was how my first ever SM and DM both got fired. The DM is probably encouraging it, I agree.
poopsh0t 6 points 1y ago
Oh yeah this is common is the restaurant business as a whole. A place I worked for would clock us out for breaks even though we didn’t get to take breaks.
clumsysilencee 18 points 1y ago
I keep having punches edited and it says “original punch unavailable,” which is strange because I’ve only ever forgotten to punch twice. What the hell is happening?
LatterRooster 2 points 1y ago
They are changing your punches
RedRowBlueBoat 15 points 1y ago
This is very illegal, and Starbucks owes you for your stolen hours. Report this to your DM and reach out to Partner Contact Center. Ethics and Compliance will be very interested in this.
Iron_to_the_wall 7 points 1y ago
That’s wage theft and super illegal
rfn790 4 points 1y ago
All of this advice is great, but you need to gather evidence first. Take a picture once you've punched out and take one again once you see it edited. If you can catch multiple instances, things will change since you'll have proof.
DaybreakNightfall 3 points 1y ago
Wage theft.
rv49er 3 points 1y ago
This is wage theft and is illegal. Depending on the state, contact the labor department or a lawyer. You will not be charged by a lawyer. Do not contact HR, they are there to protect themselves.
LZARDKING 3 points 1y ago
That’s illegal
Improvmomolyfe 2 points 1y ago
Have you actually “disputed” any of the punches so the problem is actually documented as incorrect in the system?
LatterRooster 2 points 1y ago
Yes! Dispute them in the system, where you see your hours. That will have a definite paper trail that they can’t delete. Mine got caught on that one… also changed my availability without my perMission and tried to boot me because of a missed shift. But the DM saw she changed my availability and not me.
anartistnamedjes 2 points 1y ago
My old manager was doing this to me but being more sneaky about it (“hey i dont have a punch for you for ___ you were scheduled to leave at ___ when did you leave”) and Id just tell him I KNOW I LEFT LATER THAT DAY. And he stopped. But yeah definitely report him.
AldiWillYouMarryMe 2 points 1y ago
CORPORATE
Kind_Fox_951 2 points 1y ago
This is literally illegal. I’d tell her to stop doing it and if continues I’d say report to a higher department and actually leave at your time to clock out.
