so my sm has a policy that if anyone calls out, they have to also call her directly after calling the store. she also likes to remind us all the time that unless we're calling out for covid-like symptoms, we have to find coverage. calling out with a cold? you have to find coverage. i called out before having emergency dental surgery, and she still wanted me to find coverage. basically always puts it on us to find coverage if we call out, but wont find coverage when people are out for covid isolation, just leaves us short handed.
but today i had to call out because i was in a different city and the battery in my car was completely dead, i had to get it towed and get a friend to pick me up. i tried to call the store twice, got no answer on either, so i texted the manager on duty that i was having issues with my car. about thirty minutes later, tried calling the store and actually got an answer. and not long after, got a call from my sm that i missed and she left a rather nasty voicemail about how i'm supposed to call her as soon as i know i cant make a shift, how i'm supposed to find coverage, and how "we're running a business, you have to show up" and basically just. being incredibly rude about me having to call out. and then sent a REALLY passive aggressive message in our work group chat about it.
so i guess im just at a loss of what to do here. ive been here since may and ive now only called out 3 times, two of which were medical related, and now this.
