Half dose vs Full dose pumps (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by CookiePoster
I've always wondered the philosophy of why we use half dose pumps vs full dose. Are the syrups like Liquid Cane Sugar and Brown Sugar Syrup more concentrated or is it just that the flavour is stronger in iced drinks? And I've come to the conclusion that for shaken espresso if a drink calls to substitute for a full dose syrup like vanilla we'd use have the amount of pumps, but is this true if we're substituting vanilla for liquid cane sugar say for a iced tea or a matcha latte? (In Canada our matcha is unsweetened so we have to pair it with LCS).

For shaken espressos, its because they have less milk/filler. Full pumps of classic would taste fine in a regular latte but would be too much in a cup with just espresso and a splash of milk (iced shaken espresso).
They make the pumps shorter for some of them because they want to keep the recipe the same (same amount of pumps per size) for certain more concentrated (LCS for Matcha, Brown Sugar for BSSE, and classic for ISE), so you're absolutely right!

If someone wants to substitute a half pump drink for a full pump drink, give them the full pumps unless its a shaken espresso. :)
