New DM took away Grounds For Your Garden(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by FfierceLaw
I've seen a lot of "new DM" posts here relating new DMs putting their stamp on "their" stores while we were blissfully DMless, run by our capable and great SM, who should just be left alone to run the store (the company imo.) So now it's our turn. It was the one cool thing we did. Customers are going to be disappointed because we had recently increased our production of GFYG bags and they were coming in and grabbing them. So, if the new DM, who visited for the first time last week, hasn't yet left business cards to display in the cafe like my SM has, how does a disappointed customer reach the new DM for a particular store? Do they call 1-800-STARBUC? Is there an electronic way for a customer to complain? I want to be ready to help them

GFYG is a corporate-led program/idea. Call corporate on him yourself, and encourage every customer who is disappointed to do so as well. He has no right to take the GFYG away.

"Grounds For Your Garden", it's a thing where we give people who want them our spent coffee grounds for use in their gardens.

I’d ask why they would do that, but the answer is in the title, DM just doing DM things.

At our store we don’t have a lot of people taking advantage of grounds for your garden. If people ask though, there’s nothing stopping you from grabbing a bag from behind the counter or in the back. Definitley think it’s stupid for your DM to be hung up on such a small detail that corporate themselves put out for customers but it’s not like you’re not allowed to give out grounds anymore. Regardless though it’s still a good idea to have customers complain to them. You should be able to find your DM’s contact information somewhere, I would ask your SM and have it written down in the book or something so that you can quickly and easily give it to customers while you don’t have business cards to give.

I’d say just offer to give them the grounds bag. Most times our store is too busy to actually bag them up properly so we just give customers the grounds bag (we save time on bagging up the grounds and they get like 4x the grounds they’d usually get. It’s a win win.)

I’m definitely willing to make the moment right if I’m there and someone comes in and asks, but it was certainly better to have 5 or 6 bags ready for them to grab and go. And many of my partners (looking at you, openers) will just say we don’t have them anymore. Gives me a thought, I may talk to SM and suggest they tell us all to make the moment right when GFYG are requested. Openers will miss the day I made a bunch of bags in the afternoons to last us awhile.
