HELL no when she watches you count the shots out loud so she knows the amount she ordered was put in there
National-Chance240649 points1y ago
it literally makes me so uncomfortable like first off we’re so understaffed and on top of that my mobile bar is always backed up and then there’s her completely leaning over everytime watching me make it , and like she’ll never say a thing when i make it , and i lid it and she comes back 30-40 seconds later just to say the SAME THING like i have short term memory or some crap
SelocAvrap30 points1y ago
I am 100% behind charging for the add shot but also may I suggest
When customers repeatedly say the drink is made wrong, grab the nearest coworker and say "Hey, I want to make sure I'm making this drink right for [customer name]. Would you mind watching me to double check?" within hearing range of the customer. Maybe give them a heads up before the next time the customer comes in that you'll say that out loud so that you have a witness that you're making it correctly so you can more easily enforce the customer needing to order the drink correctly
I had to do this a few times with some problem customers and having someone watch to back you up really helps
National-Chance24067 points1y ago
see i would love to do that, but in the morning there is literally 3 ppl running around and we are so badly understaffed that asking for someone is not possible 🥲 cuz other employees have to be at their stations it’s all so sensitive in the mornings. and the shifts are quit rude as well. trust me i’ve been here for 4 months and if i ask a question to clarify , the shift looks at me like im dumb, and she’s like “u should already know” like geez answer it im already mid panic
richayy4204 points1y ago
I feel so sorry for you, I know the feeling of asking a shift for help four months in.. just know that is their stress talking when they make a rude comment in response. Keep ya head up!
Roseyy-Girl2 points1y ago
We have one of those too bro. So annoying tbh
[deleted] [OP]69 points1y ago
i would straight up say, i could but it’ll cost you an extra 0.90$ :)
Marmiadon118 points1y ago
Dont even give them the option. "Sure! Ill ring you up for another shot at the register! 🙃" And start walking over there. Drop eeeverything to Make The Moment Right™️
BaristaWoosa40 points1y ago
Precisely what I do in these situations. With as friendly a voice as I can muster. It’s great to see their smirk disappear and them either grudgingly pay for the add shot or uno reverse and no thanks their way right out the door.
cringeqween135 points1y ago
I hate when my coworkers don't charge people when they ask for an extra shot or sweet cream after the customers gotten their drink.
BaristaWoosa4 points1y ago
Oh it’s one of my biggest pet peeves! I’m constantly coaching my baristas to not just give them everything on the house. That’s what turns customers into “but they do it for me at the other stores” people >:{
National-Chance240625 points1y ago
that’s deff my plan the next time she comes in!
tacticalcop5 points1y ago
please keep us updated i want to see this person stop in their tracks
National-Chance24065 points1y ago
i’ll let y’all know once she comes back!!
Sdee12346 points1y ago
THIS. Every. Damn. Time. I have been getting people left and right with this lately.
coldcatsoup41 points1y ago
yeah, so just next time she says this, just say "oh I'm sorry but I have been corrected on this and I am no longer able to do it, you can go and pay for a solo shot and I can put it in a short cup and you can add it to your Americano. Again sorry I don't want to get in trouble"
I mean if you meet the "wrong" manager or one sees you doing this you could definitely be in trouble, its technically theft.
teenydots7 points1y ago
This 100%. I can't tell you how many times I've tried charging someone for adding something extra and they have a meltdown saying "but I do this all the time and it's never happened" or "the other store always did it for free" or something to that effect. If you say that "that's always been the rule, and management has been really cracking down on us bending the rules lately so I'm not allowed to give out extra product for free anymore."
I know this isn't the case with your current situation, but if someone does come around and start bitching about other stores doing it for them just straight up say "well that's against company policy so they shouldn't have been doing that in the first place."
ayakowantsmemes2 points1y ago
Oml if I got a penny every time I heard "well the other store always does [some BS not standard]"... Petition to cancel anyone like that. It's kinda manipulative and I'm so tired of it 😩
46patisse23 points1y ago
She’s awful and you are cool
National-Chance24067 points1y ago
purrr
whatisprofound16 points1y ago
That's a hard pass for me anyway. Bringing her drink back to the food service side of the bar, especially after she drank from it? Nah, sorry bud. Even if I'm "making the moment right" I'm gonna have to pull that shot into a short cup and, well, at that point you might as well pay for it.
here_forthefun10 points1y ago
Nah you guys need to start charging her for that extra shot
ShannyES8 points1y ago
I would just not make her order until she arrives. “Hey Karen, I’ve noticed that you like an extra shot of espresso. Same. Did you know you can order it that way on the app? That way it’s exactly how you like it when you arrive? It would save us both some time in our mornings”.
Loudly.
Especially if there’s a cafe full of people.
And if she refuses - have her slide down to the register to order and pay for her extra shot next time. Because she knows what she’s doing. Calling her out will stop the nonsense.
National-Chance24063 points1y ago
ur so right, this is my exact plan next time it occurs!!

I tell customers who do that to get in line and order a single. 🤷♀️ if they argue then I tell them extra shots are an upcharge. You would have been charged less if you had just ordered an extra shot with it in the first place. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
Bajaandblonde4 points1y ago
All you have to do is politely tell her it is a 90 cent extra charge, I'll do it for you this time, but next time I'm going to have to charge you. You give them the product as a courtesy the first time, explain the policy, and then charge them the next. If they cause a ruckus, remind them of the conversation you had about it. Maybe bring up this scenario to your manager and tell them what you plan on doing so if the person wants to "speak to the manager", they'll have your back and you won't have to worry about it.. Don't let them intimidate you, its just coffee. Lay down the law, otherwise they'll walk all over you.
National-Chance24062 points1y ago
100%! great way of handling stuff, i’ll keep that noted
Mikaylapancakes4 points1y ago
I’m petty with people who continue to try to do this because it can put my job at risk. I usually say something like “not a problem if you can just get in line for me so I can ring you up for that extra espresso shot that’d be great” and if they say some sass like you didn’t make it right I’d just remake the actual mobile order drink and not put the extra shot until she pays.
National-Chance24064 points1y ago
ur right
[deleted] [OP]3 points1y ago
There’s always the option of giving her DECAF shots instead lmao. I did this with the especially rude customers who came in acting entitled or did stupid shit like this. It was so satisfying, and you can’t really get in trouble for it because once the shot is in the drink, you can’t really tell the difference anyways
National-Chance24063 points1y ago
omg ur right LOLLL i tend to forget ab that option😂😂😂
[deleted] [OP]3 points1y ago
hahahaha I had no idea that was a thing until a supervisor told me! she was like “you did NOT hear this from me, but if a customer is ever rude to you, just give them decaf.” I typically saved it for the really rude ones but it became a classic move for me especially when I was having a bad day.
I did something similar when I worked at another company a few years ago—I worked the drive thru and this lady had pulled up to the window and said no one had answered her at the speaker (she drove right past it without waiting) and said she’d been waiting for 20 minutes and all she wanted was a chocolate shake. I decided to be nice that day even though she was really rude about it, and she told me “absolutely NO CHERRIES.” You know what I did? I made the shake, poured half of it in, dumped about five cherries in, and then poured the rest in. It was the most petty thing I’d done on the job up until I worked at Starbucks, that was three years ago and I’m still damn proud of that lol 😂
National-Chance24061 points1y ago
LMAOOO i love to hear this kinda stuff , AS YOU SHOULD!!! these ppl have the audacity and for what 😭🤚🏽
briannuzzi1 points1y ago
definitely start charging her. it’s not the fact that Starbucks is losing money, bc it’s not MY money we’re losing so that I don’t care about, it’s the fact she’s intentionally taking advantage of us as workers. next time put your foot down! you don’t have to be rude but just be like “I can for sure do that for you but since the standard comes with __ shots, I’m going to have to charge you for an extra one so you can just head on up to the cash” no more giving customers free shit, especially if they’re rude about it, 2021!!
