Hello baristas, I have a question I’d love your input in. So I am currently the Starbucks manager at a licensed store (Safeway). I went to a corporate store today to trade some supplies and they offered me to go work for them. Working for a licensed store kinda sucks sometimes because I’m doing Starbucks while being employed by a grocery store.

This other store has a very busy drive through and I would no longer be a manager, though I’d get a lot more benefits. Not really sure if it’s something I want to look into yet, but I’m curious if anyone has made the transition from a licensed store to a corporate store? And what were the changes?

Thanks for any input!

Having gone from management to worker bee at another job the hardest part is the adjustment that you aren't in charge.

Your comments and helpful advice can come across as bossy and unappreciated given that you'll be on the same level as the other partners unless you come in as a SSV.

1. It was EXTREMELY nice for management to actually understand issues you're having. One issue I had at my license store is that upper management wasn't related to Sbux at all so there was zero understanding.
2. Having a large team has been a godsend. It's not all on your shoulders anymore.
3. Paycut, but the benefits make up for it in my opinion.
4. It does not feel like the same job. Aside from recipes you already know, it's a learning curve for the rest. It was overwhelming at first (the speed, hyper-focusing on one station all day versus having to carry the whole store all the time) but I do prefer it. When it's time to go, you go. You don't have to complete 50 other tasks before you end the day.\*
5. Speed/volume is so much higher, so you need more endurance. No downtime before 3PM.

Overall, I vastly prefer it, but my cafe makes for an extremely good environment which doesn't seem to be the case across this sub. I say if you like the people you've met so far there, it's worth the jump!

Edit\*: I am speaking as a regular barista. Can't say this applies to supervisors!
