New Barista Trainer (self.starbucksbaristas)

Does it make a difference if I’m being scheduled for coverage when I’m supposed to be training a new partner, or should it always be marked as training? Does it make a difference in my paycheck?

No, you make the same rate plus a bonus when you’re done training. Coverage vs non coverage or training is scheduled that way bc we’re allotted only a certain number of labor hours. It also helps with planning out the day for your shift to know when you’ll be training. It seems weird that it’s not put down as training but it shouldn’t affect you that much.

The times in the past when I've seen a barista trainer marked as not-training has sometimes been because the store is short staffed and "needs them on the floor".... usually doesn't bode well for the training process, and what exactly happens depends on the trainer/SS/SM/day. So I'd be a little wary of that, but even if that's the case, there isn't much you can do about it.

Also OP, you can double check if it's time you're actually training, or if your trainee is doing computer work and you're still on the floor. They have like two days of computer work to do- whether all at once or spliced between floor training.
