What type of questions do y’all get tired of hearing?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by darkwolf523
I start things off. I get the occasion “do you guys have boba tea?” From small children. Hate to see them sad from the answer but what else can I say to that? :(
Cauliflower29196 points1y ago
Someone asked if we can make the drinks carbonated. He wanted a mango refresher but with bubbles and tbh I’m with him
GerbilFeces104 points1y ago
Never done it for a customer, but I shake the concentrate with inclusions, ice and no water and pour it over a bottle of sparkling water.
Cauliflower2929 points1y ago
Now that is a good idea right there
echowolf99 points1y ago
I’ve done that too, it’s basically the same flavor but it has some carbonation.
Sbuxshlee7 points1y ago
Thats interesting
Cool_Beans_2323 points1y ago
Had something similar the other day. Someone asked for an “Italian soda.” It was a sparking water with 6 pumps of sugar free vanilla and heavy cream. Never seen that before !
darkwolf523 [OP]14 points1y ago
How would that happen
rio8envy769 points1y ago
Starbucks used to have Fizzio at some stores that could carbonate drinks like refreshers and teas. They got rid of it though.
SM0LandANGR3Y24 points1y ago
Plz no. I would like to erase all Fizzio memories from my brain lmao
rio8envy79 points1y ago
My old store never had one when they were a thing. It looked like it was a pain in the ass though.
Sbuxshlee7 points1y ago
Me too.
Sbuxshlee15 points1y ago
It broke down every other day, took forever to clean every day, was a pain in the ass to get to work right with that stupid rubber gasket lid thing, and took for fuckin ever to make a drink with it. I was so happy when they announced it was going away. I was like , which trash can should i chuck this thing in?? Ill make it happen right now guys, i dont care how heavy it is!!
darkwolf523 [OP]6 points1y ago
Oh make sense. Didn’t know some stores have it though
rio8envy712 points1y ago
It’s gone now but yeah I used to see sparkling refreshers on the app when I first started working with sbux.
baristamathematician12 points1y ago
Yes, I think almost all stores got Fizzios in 2014 and we started selling “hand crafted sodas” like root beer and orange sodas. But they did so poorly that corporate just stopped promoting it and eventually told everyone to just get rid of the machine in 2016/2017.
veganwifey10 points1y ago
You could offer for them to pay for a bottle of sparkling water and then use that as the water for the refresher?
Sbuxshlee6 points1y ago
Dont shake it though!
veganwifey5 points1y ago
Lol I was thinking this but forgot to say it! 😂
Sbuxshlee10 points1y ago
I mean its kinda common sense but you never know. Ive seen a lot in my ~15 years. A green bean tried to heat up a display sandwich for a customer once, thank god i caught it cause the customer didnt mind it either.
Levinem7179 points1y ago
I used to take a venti or Trenta cup, pump mango syrup into it, then top it off with san palagrino.
Dull_Comfortable_6804 points1y ago
Back in the day My B&N Cafe had a soda machine. We would make the Valencia Orange and Cool Lime with Co² Water. Soooo Good
Maximum2945-5 points1y ago
i’ve done this before with a whip cream canister! it actually works pretty ok if you leave it for a while in there
gay_robots8 points1y ago
I see we’re cross contaminating our whipped cream canisters now
Maximum294517 points1y ago
you ever hear about washing things? it’s pretty cool
pandiechu7 points1y ago
I'm sorry, what do you mean..?
Maximum29456 points1y ago
you can carbonate stuff by putting it in a whip cream canister and charging it, you just let it sit for a bit and it gets fizzy
dstnygn4 points1y ago
well, it doesnt carbonate them, its more like a nitro cold brew
ogilviup104 points1y ago
I close and more than once people will come in like a minute or two before closing and ask for a sandwich. TWO MINUTES before closing, obviously there is not anything left ( we are in the middle of a campus so not huge stock n such) . I tell them and they always ask, “dang why are you guys always out of everything?” Well maybe if you didn’t come in as our doors are closing you’d have more luck 🙃
darkwolf523 [OP]30 points1y ago
Fucking rip. Used to work in a licensed store and I know that pain
ogilviup5 points1y ago
Glad you understand 😫
darkwolf523 [OP]5 points1y ago
I will pray for you :)
ogilviup4 points1y ago
Appreciate ya!
UsernamesAre4Nerds73 points1y ago
"Do you guys have boba tea?"
"Do you have hazelnut/peppermint/toffee nut/caramel drizzle/oatmilk in yet?"
"Can you do something about the guy asking for money out here?"
feisty31412 points1y ago
Pretty sure if someone is soliciting/pan handling on Starbucks property we can make them leave. If it's on neighboring property there's nothing we can do, but if they're right in front of your door or something like that, you can definitely ask them to leave and probably call police if they don't.
UsernamesAre4Nerds9 points1y ago
Oh for sure, but once we call, all the cops do is tell them they can't be on the property. They'll leave, and within the next week they'll be right back on their bullshit.
My store isn't in a fantastic part of town, and we have at least three "regulars" who come in and harass/panhandle and all we can say is that we called and are waiting on the cops. Then the popo show and we just tell them sorry, they must've left before you showed.
CutlerAF60 points1y ago
“How many shots of espresso normally come in that Frappuccino?”
“Can I get that with no ice in a trenta cup?”
“Can I have two venti cups of just ice?”
olivinemultichrome21 points1y ago
“Can I get an extra shot of expresso in that frappy?”
One, it’s espresso. Two, it’s Frappuccino. Three, is it really extra if it doesn’t come with one to begin with?
LemonDaze42057 points1y ago
I’m tired of asking “what size?” And “hot or iced?” “caramel macchiato” is not how you order.
FragrantWin914 points1y ago
I feel this. I’m so sick of people coming in, looking at all the cake pops we have and talking about the flavors, walking up to the register, and saying “can I have a cake pop” Yes. Yes you can. What Kind 😞😭😭
laughingashley-17 points1y ago
It seems like every time I order, the barista reverses what I said with an attitude. I'm a former bean and no matter how I say it (Iced grande vs grande iced) they flip it and repeat it at me like I'm an idiot. I'm pretty over that little slight lol
emileeavi16 points1y ago
I mean, sometimes people will be like, "grande iced vanilla latte" and I always ask "would you like that hot or cold? I always feel like an idiot but it's because it became a habit 😩
laughingashley-8 points1y ago
If I say, "iced grande vanilla latte" they reply *"grande ICED vanilla latte?"* and vice versa lol
I'm used to it but also c'mon 🙃
emileeavi12 points1y ago
I think they do that because there's customers who once they get their drink they go, "This was supposed to be hot" after they say, "iced vanilla latte" 😭
ThrowawayTheOmlet12 points1y ago
… i repeat what the customer says because 1) our speaker system is shit and I wanna make sure I heard them correctly 2) I want my other baristas who are on bar/warming to make sure they heard what was being ordered so they can make it quick enough for our stupid drive times 3) speaking of, its a good way for buying more time to meet drive times.
So instead of assuming they’re mocking you for some stupid reason, cause seriously none of us care about what some rando orders, maybe try not assuming the worst in people?
BaristaWoosa4 points1y ago
THIS 10000% THIS
laughingashley1 points1y ago
No, they're no-question undeniably *correcting* me, either way I say it, like it's even that important. IJS I've never done that as a partner because why? Why add hostility to a mundane transaction?
I'm not referring to repeating an order to make sure it's correct or to make sure the bar heard it. I'm referring specifically to this weird flex that seems very common. I'm not sure why I'm getting defensive down votes lol but we see you when y'all do this passive aggressive stuff to customers 👀 and I haven't personally accused anyone here, I've just said that it happens a lot.
SWEGDovahkiin8 points1y ago
I can personally say that on DTO, I just repeat stuff in the order that i see it on the screen or the order it feels natural to me. I never say it any specific way on purpose to correct anyone, I don't have time for that. I just say it.
howdudo3 points1y ago
i dont think you are wrong. like the downvotes seem excessive. but also i stress *iced* every single time im talking to the person at drive thru. making sure the drink can get started right. sometimes looking at them directly saying *iced iced iced they said iced*

I hate being asked "yeah, but is it too sweet?" It feels like so many people will asked about a drink they havent tried yet, mostly the pumpkin cream cold brew it seems, and when told it's really good and super popular. Look at me and ask if its too sweet. How the fuck do I know what you think is too sweet?? We have people that think 1 pump of liquid cane in a venti is too sweet and other ppl that put 10 pumps of vanilla in a tall latte
olivinemultichrome18 points1y ago
“Can I get the strawberry acai half sweet?” Like, it’s juice, and you’re gonna be mad if I give extra water.
[deleted]1 points1y ago

nedcoleman25 points1y ago
How about - what questions do I get tired of asking? A person orders 5 drinks, and every drink I have to ask “What size would you like?” Is there no learning curve? Apparently not.
kobo1525 points1y ago
When we’ve been out of peach for months and people are like “how can you be out of peach?!?!”
olivinemultichrome17 points1y ago
I had someone ask for mango syrup today. Which was discontinued when I worked at a corporate store about eight years ago.
kobo157 points1y ago
Damn that’s a throwback!!
realnewtgeiszler18 points1y ago
After being asked if we have [insert item we haven't had for months here] and replying "No" for the hundredth time, being asked "Well, what DO you have?" You have an ENTIRE MENU of other items at your disposal and everything you just asked for isn't even on the menu you are looking at. What do you MEAN "WhAt Do YoU hAvE?"???
cringeqween1310 points1y ago
Coffee. This is a coffee shop. We have coffee.
realnewtgeiszler7 points1y ago
Got asked if we sell soup the other day and just about collapsed
kqs137 points1y ago
Three bean soup, vanilla soy latte is my response when asked that. It happens surprisingly often lol
cringeqween133 points1y ago
🌟 good soup 🌟
kqs138 points1y ago
When people do that to me (only if they are rude), I passive aggressively list every single syrup we have in stock without letting them interrupt me
realnewtgeiszler10 points1y ago
You understand me. "Caramel. Dark caramel. Mocha. White mocha. Vanilla. Sugar free vanilla-" "I'll just do the-" "Brown sugar. Apple brown sugar. Funnel cake."
1badbiddie2 points1y ago
This!! It gets on my nerves all the timeee 😭 then you’d have to tell them all the fraps or syrups that you have- ugh it’s so annoying 🤕
sofso18 points1y ago
I don't even blame the customers for this but I'm tired of answering questions with "Unfortunately, we're out of that and we will be out of it for the foreseeable future. Can I get you anything else?"
cringeqween135 points1y ago
My problem is when you tell them you have no clue when it'll be back but you have regulars that come at least every other day asking if you have it yet.
capsule_of_anxiety116 points1y ago
“What’s the difference between an americano and espresso? Is it water?”
“Which one is the blended frozen drink?”
“Where is your bathroom?”
“Can I have a Trenta tea, no water, no ice?”
“Can you make a Frappuccino hot?”
“Do you have gluten free sandwiches?”
“Did you make that decaf? Are you sure?”
“Why did the price change on this beverage?”
“Can you add extra bacon to that sandwich?”
“Why don’t you guys have cream and sugar on the condiment bar yet? When will that come back?”
“Why are you guys taking so long?”
“Can you give me my receipt?” (When I’m on Café/MOP bar slammed with drinks, and they want me to give them their receipt?? This happened TWICE to me in one day 😑)
melodiic_7 points1y ago
i mean. iced tea no water no ice Is the easiest and most harmless drink js... just pour to max shaker line for trenta and shake a few times, easy peasy and then that person is probably not gonna come in to order another one that day
capsule_of_anxiety18 points1y ago
It’s more like when we have shortages of teas that that’s annoying tho 😅
cringeqween131 points1y ago
When you brew a 2 liter pitcher of tea and someone asks for 3 trentas with no water that leaves you with a little more than 4 oz
karrotdunncold15 points1y ago
“Can I get a cold brew hot? Does that come hot?”
“Is the Nitro Cold Brew hot?”
“Is (insert drink here) sweet?”
“Can I get a hot Frappuccino?”
“Can I get a London Fog Tea Latte?” (Exclusively asked in the drive thru, of course)
“Why does the app say you’re out of this when you’re not?” (When we have one type of sandwich/pastry left)
“What’s a good drink for kids?”
“Can I get an iced with cream and sugar?” (An iced what?)
Also the following interaction (exaggerated but you get the idea): “Can I get a double smoked bacon sandwich?” “Unfortunately, we’re out of that sandwich. We only have the impossible sandwich, the reduced fat turkey bacon, and spinach feta wraps.” “Do you have sausage cheddar?” “No we don’t. Again, we only have the impossible, reduced fat turkey bacon, and spinach feta wraps.” “What about Bacon Gouda?” “No, we only have the impossible, the reduced fat turkey bacon, and spinach feta wraps.” “So what do you have then?!?!”
Pippy57512 points1y ago
Better one, “can I get an iced London fog latte?” In the drive thru. Those people kill me
karrotdunncold1 points1y ago
What I meant to type lol
kattrinee5 points1y ago
I left years ago but love the hot & iced London Fog Latte. How long before going through the drive thru should I put my order in the app?
SatinSnakes6 points1y ago
I'd come inside for this tbh
kattrinee3 points1y ago
Bummer. I'm immunocompromised and masks aren't mandatory near me. I guess I'll put off ordering it until I can go in store.
SatinSnakes7 points1y ago
Immunocomp barista. It's def rough. Drive through hot is really not annoying. Iced just takes 5min to steep then additional lil bit to put it together so if they are slammed it may get forgotten on a counter. But I never get annoyed at hot.
cringeqween131 points1y ago
I've had a customer asked for an iced honey citrus mint but since I didn't know how you would do that I offered them a cup of ice. You could order it hot and if you want it iced just ask for a cup of ice with it
Playful-Imagination25 points1y ago
That last one hit me. I get absolutely irate when customers do this.
kqs133 points1y ago
Someone started this with me and I said, "I only have the ones I listed to you" and they went silent lol
cringeqween131 points1y ago
I don't understand how SO MANY PEOPLE can be so dense. Like how is common sense so UNcommon? I had someone as for something and I say no we only have this this and this and she goes so you don't have that. Like ma'am. Was THAT on my list of this this and this? No? There's your answer.
Classy_Llama14 points1y ago
I had someone ask if we had soup… I was just like “oatmeal is kinda like soup.” They simply drove off after I said we didn’t have soup
cringeqween134 points1y ago
I had someone ask for soup and I was so confused like what gave them the idea that we would have soup?
gabby246813 points1y ago
Literally same thing happened to me but we’re next to a brunch place so I was like uhh this is Starbucks if you’re confused
paladin-miraak14 points1y ago
My store is super new and a “drive-thru forward” model so that means we don’t have a food case and everyone always asks if we have one or where it is. Honestly we should really just put out a laminated food menu next to the register because of how many people ask.
cringeqween136 points1y ago
Tell them its in the bathroom
electricblackjack12 points1y ago
Currently our store is mobile pick up only because we are short staffed, and we have a sign on the door that says "Inside for Mobile Order Pick up Only." and the amount of times I get asked daily,
"Can I place an order inside." Or "Do I have to place a mobile order for inside?"
It drives me up the wall because we have a row of chairs blocking the register and people still disregard and step over them asking to place a cafe order.
cringeqween133 points1y ago
Or they mobile order it in the lobby and stand there. Like there aren't a bazillion signs that say out indoor seating is closed bUt iM STaNdiNg
andyboy23212 points1y ago
I haaate that tiktok has people thinking we got boba. We also get asked a lot if we carry soda. I've never been to a Starbucks that has soda.
BaristaWoosa5 points1y ago
I’ve been asked for Gatorade too 🙃🙃
normaldud2 points1y ago
I’ve been asked if we have Mountain Dew
dayahorne11 points1y ago
When I tell customers we only have what's in the (pastry) case and they ask for everything that's not in there.
mezzobarista11 points1y ago
“can i get extra EXTRA caramel drizzle?”
BaristaWoosa4 points1y ago
“Oh....that’s like...way too much”
cringeqween133 points1y ago
"Oh I'm sorry we don't have a standard for extra do we just have to eyeball it to know if its extra enough"
BaristaWoosa3 points1y ago
“I said LIGHT extra caramel”
cringeqween135 points1y ago
Sorry we only have dark
Peabella10 points1y ago
People who ask for their spreads spread for them.
robinbrauer227 points1y ago
Nooooo no I will not.
throatsofgoats1 points1y ago
Are we even allowed to do that? Like, maybe if a customer has a mobility issue I could see it.
Peabella2 points1y ago
I heard that we can’t at Starbucks but they can at Dunkin’ Donuts, I’m just not sure I remember what the difference is or why
jlmonet979 points1y ago
“Okay what syrups do y’all have” Proceeds to have to list all syrups for customer connection:,))))))
BaristaWoosa5 points1y ago
“WhAt PaStRiEs Do YoU hAvE?”
YorkTownBratty6 points1y ago
I get asked if my store has sprite more often than you’d think…
Miserable_Leek_86976 points1y ago
I live in the city and we don’t have a bathroom and that’s very obvious as our store is the smallest store I’ve ever seen. Im tired of people asking if we have a bathroom..
lokomodo19 points1y ago
What do you do when you need to go to the bathroom then???
Miserable_Leek_86971 points1y ago
Well we have a single use bathroom in the back for employees only. Its also where our mop sink is and some of our storage. We keep paper towels, toilet paper, first aid, brooms and mops back there
guardianangeltaz5 points1y ago
Do you all have _______ cups in?
Artistic_Sock29104 points1y ago
can I get a venti ___ refresher with no ice...Oh and can I get a venti cup of ice on the side?
People asking "is this mine" when the name is no where close and the drink/s look nothing like theirs
Did the price go up?
Can you split my frappuccino into two?
What drinks do you have that are keto?
Straws? Customer looks around, then spots them behind the bar. Then they give my an accusatory look like I forgot but their cup has a sippy lid
A lady today asked me if her coffee looked so dark because it was a dark roast. She then told me she normally gets a misto. -.- I just stared at her
gravydaddy384 points1y ago
DO YOU HAVE THE VERY BERRY HIBISCUS ??????????????????
victorious_gem4 points1y ago
😅 "do you guys have soda??" "what drinks do you have here that's NOT coffee?" "can I get a sausage, egg && cheese on a bagel" "hi can I get a water cup"
FairProfessional03 points1y ago
Not a question but it’s annoying when a customer orders a drink on DTO and doesn’t specify everything they want in it. Like when someone orders a “venti iced coffee” and then you hand it off at window and they ask “Where’s the cream?” The iced coffee doesn’t come standard with cream, and I don’t think it’s fair for me to have to remember to ask everyone who orders an iced coffee whether they want cream or not. It’s the customer’s job to communicate what they want! This is more of a problem when they act like I’m the wrong one in the situation.
gabby246813 points1y ago
I think my favorite is when I’m slammed on bar and someone comes and asks if I’ll take their order 😂
Sammorz3 points1y ago
Are you open?
biclimbercatmom3 points1y ago
i literally had a group of college students approach my store & ask this as we were turning off the lights & pulling the a-frame inside tonight😭😭 like sis does it look like😭😭😭
Sammorz1 points1y ago
Lmao mine usually happen in broad daylight
biclimbercatmom1 points1y ago
oh yeah we get that too. we’re a low volume cafe only & people walk in & see that we’re empty around 2 & they’re like “uhhh are y’all open?”
passivelyabbi3 points1y ago
Asking if machiattos have whip!!
cringeqween131 points1y ago
Or without whip
getcassedfag3 points1y ago
can i get a sausage and cheddar on a croissant? can i get the caramel macchiato? i need something strong, is the mocha frappuccino strong? i want a strawberry açaí with raspberry and coconut milk. i want a pink drink with coconut milk. can i get a salted caramel mocha? can you make that iced(at the very end of their long order)? do you guys have any roasted ham and swiss? THEM ASKING FOR LITERALLY ANYTHING WERE OUT OF AND HAVE BEEN OUT OF FOR MONTHS. drives me crazy :)
AmauroticParoxysm3 points1y ago
“Do you guys do keto drinks?”
darkwolf523 [OP]1 points1y ago
Tf is a keto drink?
AmauroticParoxysm1 points1y ago
Keto is a low-carb diet where you try to get more calories from protein and fat and less from carbohydrates. It can actually help with epilepsy I’ve heard but most people do keto just to try and lose weight, even if it’s mostly water weight. Starbucks doesn’t really have anything keto oriented though (besides heavy cream), but they’ll still come back and ask over and over.
LMWreckless3 points1y ago
"Can I have a straw?"
omgtee2 points1y ago
“Do you have any in the back?”
rlogranite2 points1y ago
Can you make it skinny?
UndiversifiedSax2 points1y ago
“Do you have any Diet Coke?” Sir, this is a Starbucks…
_pkthunder1 points1y ago
Can I get "a piece" of loaf?
Like no! You can't! You can have a slice!!!!
No-Doughnut-73631 points1y ago
"do you have diet coke?"
Crashlandjoe1 points1y ago
Sir the code for the bathroom is 12345 No u just have to turn the knob immediately after u press 5
Crybaby_ly-lah1 points1y ago
Points at a random drink “is that mine?” 1. Idk what you ordered 2. Idk your name so how am I suppose to know if it’s yours
ayakowantsmemes1 points1y ago
Yesterday someone asked if we had red bull 😖
Tubstero1 points1y ago
“Can I get a hot Frappuccino?”
No
No you cannot
It’s impossible
What do you want from me
maemac1 points1y ago
Not asking for, but skipping straight to ORDERING something we have never had. “Can I get hash browns with that?” “Can I get a coke?” Both things that have been ordered at my store, or asking for customizations on breakfast sandwiches like “can I get the double smoked bacon but put it on an English muffin?” Or “sausage and cheddar but add bacon” like what????
Impossible-Host-9241 points1y ago
our bathrooms have a code number lock. so people constantly ask what’s the code for the bathroom. it’s so irritating
jarvisjuniur1 points1y ago
"Is this mine?" During peak. I didn't take your order?? I don't know who you are!! Why can't you read the sticker?
Alternatively, if they say "is this the vanilla latte?" I'm less annoyed. It's just the entitlement of assuming I know who you are and what your drink is when I'm pumping out two drinks a minute.
LilKaySigs1 points1y ago
“Do you guys have peach and guava?”
No we don’t idk where you’ve been for the past 28281991 days
normaldud1 points1y ago
“Do you have the *very vague description of reusable cup* cup?”
snailonthem00n1 points1y ago
People asking if I was sure I put the extra shot, extra caramel, extra whatever in their drink like I wasn't the one who just took their order two minutes ago and didn't have the order list right there
cringeqween131 points1y ago
Asking for anything at the window other than napkins and straws. You want a cup of water or ice or any food item or another drink, why didn't you ask at the box? Like I'd be cool with it if I could announce to the cars behind them that they added additional items at the window so everyone else is gonna have to wait a few extra minutes (also f drive times)
