Today I was doing DT-Row and I had these TWO customers (same car) order a Carmel ICED COFFEE . Okay I put it though as a ICE COFFEE with carmel syrup ….. they get to the window and is like this isn’t a ice coffee….. I said yes it is this is a ice coffee with the Carmel flavoring…. They proceeded to tell me what they SPECIFICALLY said wasn’t it so I’m trying to fix it they’re mad and shaking their head… then the lady says I want the coffee with milk and Carmel…. I said so a latte…… and they literally was like yeah that…. They was so mad Bc THEY DIDN’T SAY THE CORRECT THING AND I GAVE THEM WHAT THEY ASKED FOR….. literally ruined my whole mood…

I feel you.. Some customers just hate being wrong and feel entitled for us to read their minds or something. I recommend asking them a million questions while they're still at the box. For example when they ask for an iced coffee ask them if they want cream, this question tells them iced coffee doesn't come made with milk. So then they'll probably question like "doesn't it come with milk already?" And you can tell them right then and there, it's a latte they want. Because they can say one thing and mean a completely different drink. So take your time while taking their order at the box, make sure everything is how they want it before they come to the window. That way your drive time won't be affected by these types of mistakes. I know it's irritating and annoying but you got this!!

Thank you, I will definitely use that technique next time. :)

You’ve just described my father 80% of the time he’s thrown a fit at a restaurant. It’s usually his fault or something easily correct too.
My mother and I have gotten to the point where we sometimes send him to the car and explain what he actually wants to the poor service industry person trying to help. I’ve tried my damnedest y’all but my dad is still one of *those customers* and I’m so sorry.

Customer: “I want the salami egg bites.” Me: “ok like the bacon egg bites?” Costumer: “NO I said salami egg bites” Me: “I’m sorry we don’t have that.” Costumer: “ok so you’re out and you aren’t even going to check?” Me: “no it’s not on the menu, ma’am.” Costumer: “you must be new here or something. Can I talk to someone who knows what they’re doing?” Me: “I’ve been with this store since we opened in 2017 and we have never served that item. Would you like to order something else?” Costumer: *drives away*

I had that customer too! Someone came in and asked for sparkling water. My register partner indicated the selection of sparkling waters in our RTDE case and the customer goes, “no, the one you make.” Register goes “????” and gets my attention. Customer: “I want sparkling water.” Me: “oh is there none in the case? It’s in the back, they can go grab it for you but it’s not cold so do you want some ice?” Customer: “no the one you make!” Me: “ohh yeah no we don’t have the Fizzio machine, that was discontinued ages ago, sorry!” Customer: “yes you do. All Starbucks have them.” Me: “I opened this store. We don’t have it.” Customer: “you do but okay whatever, I’ll just buy this water.” I legitimately wanted to ask her to come show me where it was if she was so damn certain.

Didnt we discontinue those in like 2017?
noeyoureatowel4 points1y ago
All I know is that we didn’t have them when I came back in 2018 - I’ve literally never even seen one 😂

They were the worst, you're not missing anything 😂 Cool concept, terrible execution. Also getting a carbonation machine and not adding Italian Cream Sodas to the menu? (At least in our region, we never got one) What a missed opportunity.

I don’t remember if it just never appealed to me as a customer or they didn’t send that sort of thing to smaller markets but I’m not sure I have either and I know I was getting bux on the regular when we had them.

I once had to argue with a lady because she wanted a iced mocha with no coffee at all, not even decaf, so I told her that'd be a chocolate milk with whip and I could do that for her. And she proceeded to argue me that it was a mocha not a chocolate milk. And no amount of explaining helped, she just rolled her eyes and told me "The Other Starbucks does this for me, you just don't know what you're doing" and left. 🤷♀️

This happens so often. Except they say they want an iced coffee with caramel, so I give them caramel syrup. "No, this is supposed to have milk" man just tell me you want milk.
symebe [OP]2 points1y ago
I seriously understand your pain
_abbycadabby_2 points1y ago
You can add a splash of milk to iced coffee, though, so they didn't necessarily want a latte. However, most people who have ever ordered a cup of coffee anywhere on the planet-- Starbucks, other shops, diner, McDonald's, wherever-- know that you should specify if you want cream or sugar. You not saying "with milk" or "with a splash of cream" is not something to berate a barista about.
symebe [OP]12 points1y ago
It was to the point where they had specifically described a latte that’s how I finally understood. I already know you can add milk to just about anything there. Those customers were just difficult and rude after they was called out on their mistake
_abbycadabby_5 points1y ago
I know you know you can add milk to iced coffee ❤️ they 100% should have said instead of yelling at you!

Caramel caramel caramel lol
Carmel is a city in Jersey I think.
symebe [OP]9 points1y ago
Literally I was trying so fast i wasn’t checking for spelling
particularBillarina-8 points1y ago
Heh usually I could care less about spelling mistakes I was just like noooooo not the caramel!
Also they sound like Dunkin’ Donuts customers because that’s how people would order when I worked there ages ago lol
symebe [OP]7 points1y ago
Must’ve sucked, how do they not realize it’s their own fault for not saying the right thing
