A grande rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Glizzysforrizzy
I work drive thru a lot sadly I’m good at it so I get put there, I really don’t mind too much as I really do love the regulars and sometimes it’s good to be kinda stationed when I’m feeling extra tired. I always give good service I’m not burnt out yet (I promise I’m not just saying that) today a lady was ordering and after each item I’m like “anything else?” That’s the standard reply at my store so people don’t feel limited to just ordering a couple of things before of “is that all?” . So this lady orders like 5 drinks and I’m like anything else ? And she’s like that’s it. When she gets up to the window (this is during peak btw) she’s screaming at me saying “ I felt so rushed you were so rude to me I forgot to order an iced coffee “ and then her passenger starts yelling at me too. I have never received this response from any customer in the drive thru ?!! I was just like I’m sorry you felt rushed I was just making sure you got everything you wanted. They continue to yell and ask if I can put the iced coffee on. I’m like I’m technically not allowed to it’s against our policy (at my store we don’t allow people to add stuff during peak at the window due to window times ofc ) but I’ll do it, but just so you know it’s not allowed. She still yells and angrily hands me the money. Then the passenger points at my name tag and they say they are going to complain. I give her a tray and her drinks w/ straws. I walk back in to get the next order ready and while the windows still open she yells my name and thank you twice but clearly aggressively ! The rest of our baristas were like what happened . I honestly felt like crying and couldn’t leave because it was peak thankfully customers after that were so nice and made my day as tipped well 😭.

Holy shit they need to back off. You know how sometimes you can subtly tell by the person's tone of voice that they're going to order more? If I hear that, I just wait quietly. If I don't, I ask the same as you did. If someone is getting annoyed by the prompting, or just wants to save me the effort, they can say, "yeah, we have a few more, just a sec," and I cheerfully say, "OK cool," and everybody understands each other. They acted like they were powerless to stop you or possibly indicate that they did indeed have more to order by any means in their control. Life must be hard for them being so powerless and all, even when interacting with people-pleasing minimum wage workers 🙄

Yeah it was so bizarre because no one has ever told me they felt rushed before ! Like you can order the whole store for all I care just let me know lol

When you said, “Anything else?” all they had to say was “yes.” This was all about some kind of misery they’re experiencing. Really nothing to do with you, I’m convinced.

Honestly ! Thankfully I didn’t let it get to me too much
