I'm about to start as a green bean and I don't want my coworkers to hate me because I literally don't even drink coffee, like at all, so I definitely don't know how to make anything. I was thinking of softening the blow by making Goody bags for all of the coworkers? Nothing crazy, maybe some coffee themed stickers and some candies? But I'm also stressing out because I don't want to seem like I'm a kiss ass, but hearing the barista stories on here I don't think anyone has had any kind gestures shown to them because of all the Karen's. I just want to get off on the right foot but I don't know if it's overkill?
Edit: I so appreciate everyone's responses! I wanted to make Goody bags because everyone there seems genuinely nice and I did witness a Karen moment today as well. The team definitely seems to work well together from my brief onboarding process and idk quarantine has just made me appreciate the small things more. Seeing other ppl happy is the only thing that motivates me anymore. A few bucks on candies feels like the least I could do for all of you guys, especially the ones working during the pandemic. Thank you guys so much ill update on how it goes!

No that’s really sweet! And not all baristas drink coffe or know about it, you’ll learn on the way !
talizoraahs13 points1y ago
seconded, and I also didn’t know anything about or drink coffee before I worked there. You’ll pick things up as you go!

I’m about 2 years in, idk shit about coffee I just read what’s off the packaging lol. I don’t drink it either

A lot of people at my store don’t drink coffee so don’t worry about it!! And as for the goody bags, it’s a sweet idea but only make them if you really want to, you definitely don’t need to! No one is gonna judge you for not knowing anything about coffee :)

Yeah idk why they’d be mad that you don’t drink coffee. Even if you did I’ve never met someone who knew how to make drinks before being trained.
It does sound like a nice gesture, but I wouldn’t do it if you feel bad, only cuz it’s nice

Lmaooooo imagine for 5 seconds Starbucks isn’t a fast food chain
RaddieB [OP]2 points1y ago
Wait what do you mean?
Klaus_Unechtname1 points1y ago
From what I read all over this sub is that Starbucks might’ve once been a nice coffeeshop but now it’s a chain focused on selling fatty food and sugary drinks with super fast time whilst maintaining the original image of a chill, accepting coffeehouse.

Honestly don’t even feel that way. I started working at Starbucks the last week of July and I had never had anything from Starbucks before that. Just make sure you’re paying attention and asking questions also I have this Starbucks training guide I used to look over at home because I was so lost with names and etc. be sure to be confident and asssskkkkkk alll the QUESTIONS it helped me. Also it might be hostile when you first start but it’s because the workers deal w a lot, you’ll be great. I know just about every position it only gets easier once you memorize everything.

Don’t worry! A lot don’t drink coffee. You can not drink it and still learn the components/taste. Also, you don’t have to do the goodie bags! It’ll be appreciated but most probably won’t remember where they come from. There’s so many new people coming in nowadays that it’s hard to keep track in the beginning. They’ll love you goodie bags or not
crunchycookie283 points1y ago
ps. I’m one of the non coffee drinkers :p but I love everything about coffee and I love making it!! my favorite position is bar hehe
whatismineisyours1 points1y ago
I’ll take a goody bag

Hey back when I was a barista I only ever drank water during shifts and nobody ever said anything to me lmao. Relax!

Goodie bags a wonderful idea to make a great first impression on your store team! 😁👍🏼 But it isn’t necessary.

I've been a Barista for well over a decade. On and off at the Bux and in different shops around the US. The goodie bags are a great idea and it's very sweet. Actually have never had a new person do it. So it's unique.
Over those years I've seen a lot, my best piece of advice is to be honest, and focus on learning and absorbing as much as possible. Own up to your mistakes and learn from them. Others will naturally respect you for this.
Good Luck!

Absolutely not! I think it’s wonderful that you’re doing something nice for your coworkers. it really does some good given what we endure on a regular basis, and I think your gesture would be greatly appreciated.
