Is there anything we can do about wretched smell from drive/cold bar drain? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SWEGDovahkiin
I'm mostly stationed on window when i work, and our drain under drive bar smells absolutely horrific to the point where it lingers after I leave the store. The drains get cleaned every morning, but I think it's inside the pipes from the sinks, not the actual drains themselves. Is there anything that can be done? I asked my shift but she basically said no/didn't answer the question.

When you close, fill the drain with ice and pour sanitizer in the drain. If you do that for a week or so it should break down buildup deep in the pipes.

I forgot to clarify that I think it's the pipes from the sinks that lead into the drain. It's most noticable when you're standing directly over the sink.

I think they meant fill the drain of the sink with ice and sanitizer so it will melt into the pipes overnight.

My SM taught us to pour a pitcher of Urnex down the drains to clean them! Just dissolve one packet Urnex in a steaming pitcher with hot water, pour, and repeat. Make sure you rinse the sink well after, you don’t want cross contamination. It works on ice bins as well, or any other clogs.
